Cam’ron’s May 20, 2024 appearance on CNN’s NewsNight turned tense when he questioned why he had been booked to discuss Sean “Diddy” Combs. He said the conduct shown in footage of Combs assaulting Cassie Ventura was “egregious” and that he was against it; afterward, he explained that he was upset the interview focused on the Diddy story rather than his show and its community work.
What happened during Cam’ron’s CNN interview?
On May 17, 2024, CNN aired surveillance footage showing Combs assaulting Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel hallway in 2016. Combs posted an apology two days later, saying, “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” according to the Associated Press timeline. On May 20, anchor Abby Phillip asked Cam’ron about the footage and apology on CNN NewsNight.
Cam’ron did not defend what the footage showed. He said, “What I want to say, first of all, when I seen the video, everything in the video is egregious, I’m against.” He also suggested that Ma$e might know more about Combs because Ma$e had been signed to him. The CNN transcript records the exchange.
Why did Cam’ron ask, “Who booked me for this?”
As the conversation continued, Cam’ron questioned why he had been brought on to discuss the Diddy story and pivoted toward It Is What It Is, the show he hosts with Ma$e. The appearance also included a promotion for Pink Horse Power, giving the segment an unusual turn. That moment was part of the broadcast, not an endorsement or advice about the supplement; TVLine’s coverage noted the promotion.

How Cam’ron explained the appearance afterward
On May 21, Cam’ron discussed the interview on It Is What It Is. As reported by HipHopDX, he said he had wanted the opportunity to talk about the show’s success and its community work, including Ma$e’s regular Zoom conversations with children. He complained that CNN had called him to discuss the Diddy story instead.
Cam’ron’s explanation was his account of why the booking frustrated him. It does not independently establish CNN’s private reasons for inviting him. The on-air transcript and his later comments are separate records: one shows what was said during the interview; the other reports how he described his reaction afterward.
