Published reporting said its six-episode first season was not renewed, then noted a later rise on Prime Video’s global chart. Those chart positions are historical reports from 2025, not current rankings.
What is Butterfly about?
Prime Video describes David Jung, played by Daniel Dae Kim, as a Korean-American man who faked his death nine years earlier. His estranged daughter Rebecca, played by Reina Hardesty, is now an assassin for the private intelligence agency Caddis—and is assigned to kill him. The premise turns a spy-thriller conflict into a family confrontation.
Prime Video’s series listing provides the show’s official description and cast details.
Why is Butterfly being described as canceled?
Published reporting says the series was canceled after its first season, which consisted of six episodes and was released on Prime Video in August 2025. No direct Prime Video cancellation announcement is established here, so the cancellation should be attributed to that reporting rather than presented as a confirmed statement from the company.

These are not two readings of the same chart: one is a U.S. Nielsen ranking and the other a reported Prime Video global position. They are rank positions, not viewership totals, and do not describe where the series stands today. The chart account is available via Headtopics’ republication of Collider reporting.

The reported rankings explain the “surging up the charts” description, but they do not establish why Prime Video did not proceed with another season. A chart position alone cannot show the company’s reasoning, the size of the audience, or whether stronger performance would have changed the decision. No confirmed cancellation rationale or audience total is established in the cited reporting.
