The group landed safely, and no one was reported injured. Jelly Roll later said a screen had cut out and the pilot chose to return rather than risk continuing. Neither account identifies the aircraft or establishes the mechanical cause.
What happened on the flight
On April 4, 2024, Bunnie XO posted that the plane carrying the group had experienced a malfunction and turned around for an emergency landing on the way to Austin. She described the frightening moment on social media: “When the private jet you’re in just stopped mid air, turned around & said we had to emergency land because of a malfunction”.
That “stopped mid air” phrase was Bunnie XO’s description of the experience, not a technical finding that the aircraft literally stopped moving. E! News reported that the plane turned back and landed safely, with no one injured. When a fan asked if they were all right, Bunnie XO replied, “We’re good baby but that was scary.” E! News reported her account on April 6, 2024.
What Jelly Roll said about the malfunction
Speaking at the CMT Music Awards on April 7, Jelly Roll offered a more specific explanation: “What happened was the screen cut out,” he said. He said the pilot decided not to risk continuing and manually flew the plane back: “The pilot was like, ‘I’m not even risking this.’ He had to manually fly the plane back. He had to fly like it was the 1960s again. He was shooken.” Jelly Roll praised the pilot and said, “It was incredible. We’re blessed.” E! News covered his explanation on April 7, 2024.

What is—and is not—known
The accounts describe the same broad sequence: a problem arose during the trip, the pilot turned back, and the group reached the ground safely. E! News’ initial report also relayed Jelly Roll’s early description of an issue with the plane’s computer; his later account specified that a screen cut out. These are the passengers’ reported descriptions, not an independent aircraft inspection or confirmed diagnosis.
- The reports do not identify the aircraft model.
- They do not specify which screen or component failed.
- They do not establish the underlying mechanical cause.
The trip was connected to the group’s travel to Austin for the April 7, 2024 CMT Music Awards. E! News’ April 6 report and April 7 follow-up provide the public accounts of the incident.
