The sources reviewed confirm print editions and catalog records for Buduguna Alankaraya (බුදුගුණ අලංකාරය), a Sinhala poem praising the qualities of the Buddha, but they do not verify an authorized PDF download. A catalog entry for an eBook is not proof that a downloadable file is currently available.
Is there an authorized Buduguna Alankaraya PDF?
No authoritative, rights-cleared PDF source is established by the available records. WorldCat search records include a Sinhala eBook dated 1968, but that catalog entry does not provide or confirm a current PDF download. Google Books lists a 1930 edition and explicitly says no eBook is available on that listing. Neither record establishes whether a separate, legally downloadable PDF exists today.
For access, look for a library or bookseller listing that identifies the exact edition and format. Do not treat a search result, catalog record, or file-sharing copy as evidence that a PDF is authorized.
What is Buduguna Alankaraya?
WorldCat summarizes the work as a 15th-century laudatory poem about Gautama Buddha, with commentary and notes in the cataloged record. The current M.D. Gunasena product description also says the work’s purpose is to praise the Buddha’s qualities. In English: “The work is named in the sense of the aesthetic character of the Buddha’s qualities; therefore, it is clear that the author’s intention was to praise the Buddha’s qualities.” This is a translation of the publisher’s description, not a quotation from the historical author.

Why do listings name different authors?
Bibliographic records attach different names to editions of this title, and the available information does not resolve how those attributions relate to one another. Check the details for the particular edition rather than assuming every record refers to the same publication or author role.
- M.D. Gunasena’s current listing describes the work as written by Vidagama Mahanetra-Prasadamula Maitreya, while its edition’s author field names Kirielle Gnanawimala Thero.
- Google Books records a 1930 edition by Vidagama Mahanetra-Prasadamula Thera.
- A Ceylon Government Gazette supplement dated 21 April 1922, reporting books registered for the quarter ended 30 June 1921, lists D. B. Jayatilaka in the author/editor column. This is a registration record, not proof of the composition date.
- A 1965 Gazette listing of Sinhala literary classics records two separate 1962 editions: one attributed to K. D. Johannes and one to Nandasena Ratnapala.

How to choose the right edition
- Confirm the format: a printed book, cataloged eBook, and downloadable PDF are different things.
- Match the ISBN, publisher, binding, and page count to the edition you want.
- Check which name appears in the edition’s author, editor, or other bibliographic fields; the records are not uniform.
- Ask whether commentary and notes are included if you need them; their presence is established only for the cataloged record that describes them.
- Verify current seller stock and delivery details directly before purchasing.
