What did Bryan Abasolo say about Rachel Lindsay’s career?
In January 2024, Abasolo pushed back on speculation that Lindsay’s professional opportunities had caused the breakup. Us Weekly reported that, in an Instagram comment, he called that idea false and said, “Her building her future was not the problem.” He described her opportunities as smart to pursue and acknowledged that women of color can face difficulty getting major opportunities. This clarifies his position on one piece of speculation; it does not establish an agreed account of the marriage’s problems or rule out other differences.
Was Rachel Lindsay surprised by the divorce filing?
That point became disputed in court-related reporting. In July 2024, The Independent reported that Abasolo responded to Lindsay’s filing by submitting text messages and arguing that she knew he intended to seek a divorce because he had texted her about it. The messages were presented as part of Abasolo’s response to Lindsay’s account. His position should not be recast as an uncontested finding about how Lindsay experienced the news; the reporting does not resolve their differing recollections.
What is established about the divorce?
The Associated Press reported from Los Angeles Superior Court records that Abasolo filed for divorce on January 2, 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. The filing listed December 31, 2023, as the separation date. The couple married in August 2019 after meeting on Lindsay’s 2017 season of The Bachelorette. On announcing their separation, Abasolo wrote, “Sometimes loving yourself and your partner means you must let go.” The AP report gives the filing details and announcement.

“Irreconcilable differences” is the legal ground stated in the filing. It is not a detailed finding about what happened privately between the two.
Why did Bryan Abasolo and Rachel Lindsay divorce?
The public accounts do not establish one agreed private cause. In later filings and interviews, the two described their time together, communication, and relationship problems differently. Us Weekly reported that Abasolo spoke about unhealthy communication and said, “We didn’t spend enough time with each other,” in a July 2024 interview with divorce counselor Rene Garcia. The careful distinction is between the stated legal ground and the parties’ attributed accounts: the filing cited irreconcilable differences, while their later descriptions of the relationship were not identical. Neither Abasolo’s career comment nor his dispute over notice supplies a definitive explanation of the entire breakup.

Us Weekly’s March 3, 2026 update reports that the divorce was finalized in January 2025 and that Lindsay said she made her final spousal-support payment in January 2026. The update reports those later milestones.
