Released June 27, 2025, it contains 83 songs, 74 of them never released in any form, and comes as a complete CD or LP box as well as a shorter 20-song companion collection.
What is Tracks II: The Lost Albums?
Announced by Springsteen and Sony Music on April 3, 2025, Tracks II: The Lost Albums brings together seven full-length records made over 35 years. The official release-day announcement counts 83 songs in total, including 74 that had never been released in any form. The Associated Press reported the same figures. These are release specifications, not a claim that every recording was made at the same time or in the same musical style. Springsteen’s release-day announcement and the Associated Press report provide the counts.
The project is distinct from Tracks, Springsteen’s 1998 four-CD, 66-song collection of unreleased material, as the AP notes. The “II” identifies a new archival project, not a reissue of that earlier box.
What are the seven lost albums?
The descriptions below follow the artist and label’s framing of each record; they are not independent reviews. The sequence follows the grouping on Sony Music Vinyl’s product page, not a chronology or stated ranking.
#1 Best Overall
- LA Garage Sessions ’83: A lo-fi exploration described as a crucial link between Nebraska and Born in the U.S.A.
- Streets of Philadelphia Sessions: Experiments with drum loops and synthesizers, reflecting Springsteen’s interest in contemporary rhythms.
- Faithless: Music created for a film that was never made.
- Somewhere North of Nashville: Country arrangements featuring pedal steel.
- Inyo: A collection of border tales described as richly woven.
- Twilight Hours: An homage to American pop standards; Sony’s store description characterizes it as orchestra-driven and mid-century noir.
- Perfect World: Arena-ready rock in an E Street style.
Together, the titles present different approaches to songwriting and recording rather than one unified album sound. The official descriptions and track groupings are on Springsteen’s release-day page and Sony Music Vinyl’s product pages.
Why were the albums unreleased?
“The Lost Albums were full records, some of them even to the point of being mixed and not released,” Springsteen said in the official announcement. The label’s description therefore includes finished or near-finished projects, not only scraps and demos. Springsteen also said he had played the music to himself and close friends for years and was glad listeners would finally get to hear it.

One example: Streets of Philadelphia Sessions
The project’s history shows how a completed album could be set aside. In an official feature, Springsteen explained that after “Streets of Philadelphia” he studied drum-sample CDs at his Los Angeles home and made loops with engineer Toby Scott, then developed the tracks with keyboards and synthesizers. He played most of the instruments, with contributions from members of his 1992–93 touring band and Patti Scialfa, Soozie Tyrell, and Lisa Lowell.
The ten-song album was completed, mixed, and slated for spring 1995. Springsteen put it aside after deciding to reunite with the E Street Band for the first time in seven years. “I always put them away, but I don’t throw them away,” he said. The account comes from Springsteen’s feature on the album.

What do the box sets and companion collection include?
The complete set was released June 27, 2025, via Sony Music, in limited-edition nine-LP and seven-CD configurations, as well as digitally. Each physical set gives the previously unreleased albums distinctive packaging. The CD and LP boxes also include a 100-page cloth-bound hardcover book with archival photographs, liner notes on each album by essayist Erik Flannigan, and a project introduction by Springsteen.
Springsteen compiled the set with producer Ron Aniello, engineer Rob Lebret, and supervising producer Jon Landau at Thrill Hill Recording in New Jersey. The release announcement lists the formats, packaging, and credits; Sony Music Vinyl’s CD and LP pages provide edition details and track listings.

Tracks II box set vs. Lost And Found
Lost And Found: Selections from The Lost Albums is a separate, shorter companion: a 20-song selection available on two LPs or one CD. The formats below describe the announced editions; they do not establish current stock or prices.
| Edition | Music | Physical format | Archival extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tracks II: The Lost Albums | All seven albums; 83 songs total | Seven-CD or nine-LP box | Distinctive packaging and a 100-page cloth-bound book with archival photos, album notes, and Springsteen’s introduction |
| Lost And Found: Selections from The Lost Albums | 20 selected songs | One CD or two LPs | The announced companion formats do not list the box’s 100-page book |
Choose the full box for all seven records and the documented archival book; the companion is the more focused option if 20 selected songs are enough. The official announcement establishes the editions, but it does not establish present-day prices, inventory, resale values, or availability at a particular retailer. Confirm those directly with a seller before buying.

How to read the song-count discrepancy
The official release-day announcement and the AP report both say the set has 83 songs, 74 never released in any form. Sony Music Vinyl’s product-page prose instead says “Featuring 82 previously unreleased songs.” Because that wording conflicts with the official release-day count and AP’s account, the clearest supported description is 83 songs total, 74 previously unreleased in any form; the Sony store’s 82-song claim should not be substituted for the 74 figure.
