Jena Sims, the wife of professional golfer Brooks Koepka, joined the 2024 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue as a rookie after co-winning the magazine’s 2023 Swim Search. How Jena Sims became a 2024 SI Swimsuit rookie
Sims’s rookie inclusion followed her co-win in the 2023 Swim Search, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s talent search. In an SI interview published April 16, 2024, she said she had applied three times before winning. SI introduced her as a rookie ahead of the 2024 issue, and the magazine’s official press announcement included her among that year’s rookies. SI Swimsuit editor in chief MJ Day praised Sims’s “tenacity, determination and dedication,” saying those were qualities the magazine looks for in talent representing its brand. Sims described the rookie shoot as a milestone, saying, “Being a rookie, it just feels right.” Both quotes appeared in SI’s interview.
Where and when was her rookie shoot?
SI photographed Sims in Mexico for the 2024 issue, with Yu Tsai behind the camera. The shoot was her first appearance in the forthcoming 60th-anniversary issue. In SI’s interview, Sims said she was four months postpartum at the time and described the experience as a milestone. Those personal details are reported in her interview with the magazine. Why the Rookie of the Year timing matters
Being a rookie in the 2024 issue and receiving the 2024 Rookie of the Year honor were not the same announcement. SI introduced Sims as a 2024 rookie before the issue came out. At the launch of the 2025 issue, on May 15, 2025, the magazine named her its 2024 Rookie of the Year. The award refers to the preceding issue year; it was announced in 2025, not when the 2024 issue launched. SI’s 2025 report describes the later honor, while her SI model profile identifies her as the 2024 Rookie of the Year.

The 2024 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue was the publication’s 60th edition. SI said it was on newsstands beginning May 15, 2024, and included Sims among its featured figures.
