How Purdy presented the Toyota trucks
Purdy told the linemen, “Alright so we’ve got five Sequoias, five Tundras,” then invited them to inspect the vehicles: “You guys can check ’em out, but these are yours.” He closed with, “Merry Christmas guys. ‘Preciate you guys. Thanks for all y’all do.” The remarks were quoted in Michael Kadlick’s Sports Illustrated report published December 20, 2024. The 49ers’ official photo gallery independently documents the truck gift.
Why Burrow chose swords
Burrow gave his linemen authentic Japanese katana swords, and recipients could select from swords with their own stories. In a Sporting News report, Burrow explained that some players had wanted guns, but he was uncomfortable with that idea; he kept to a “weapon mindset” by choosing swords. He also said, “Samurai swords, I think, are pretty dang cool.”
Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. praised the thought behind the gift: “Joe does a great job at buying gifts that are extremely meaningful,” and “The fact that he bought me a sword, it’s the most ancient form of respect.” The remarks were attributed to Brown in contemporary coverage citing The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. and reproduced in this December 20, 2024 report.

How the two gifts compare

Burrow’s reported 2025 Christmas gifts were a separate event: ESPN reported that he gave his offensive linemen dinosaur, bear, and mammoth fossils. Those fossils were not part of the December 2024 sword gift.
