Davey Boy Smith became known worldwide as the British Bulldog through a career that moved from British wrestling to tag-team success and major singles victories in WWE. His legacy includes the British Bulldogs’ WrestleMania 2 championship win, his 1992 Intercontinental Championship victory at Wembley Stadium, and his posthumous induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. Smith died on May 18, 2002; his family’s official website says he died of heart failure, while contemporary reporting places his death in Invermere, British Columbia.
How Davey Boy Smith became the British Bulldog
Smith began wrestling as a teenager in England. He developed as a wrestler alongside his cousin Tom Billington, better known as Dynamite Kid, and the two worked in Calgary’s Stampede Wrestling orbit.
