Spoiler warning: this guide covers the Season 3 Part 2 finale, including who ends up married and who Penelope Featherington publicly reveals herself to be. Netflix released Part 2 on June 13, 2024, as episodes 305 to 308 of an eight-episode season; Part 1 premiered on May 16, 2024. This guide covers Season 3 only, and later seasons fall outside its scope.
The short answer to “who’s who” is this: the season’s story runs through Penelope Featherington, who is the anonymous author of the society paper Lady Whistledown. Her engagement and marriage to Colin Bridgerton, her strained friendship with Eloise Bridgerton, and the household and social pressures around her family drive most of Part 2. Everyone else is best understood by how they connect to that plot.
Lady Whistledown is a byline, and Penelope is the writer
Lady Whistledown is not a separate character. The name is the public face of a society-paper operation that Penelope runs in secret, and Penelope is the person writing it. Keeping that distinction in mind makes the Part 2 storylines easier to follow: when a character talks about “Whistledown,” they are talking about the paper and its influence, and when they talk about the author, they mean Penelope.
Queen Charlotte has spent much of the season trying to uncover the writer’s identity, which gives the secret its political weight. Netflix’s finale explainer on Tudum presents the queen as more amused than angry when Penelope reveals herself publicly.

Penelope, Colin and Eloise
Penelope Featherington / Lady Whistledown (Nicola Coughlan)
Penelope is the youngest Featherington daughter and the author of Whistledown. In Part 2 she begins newly engaged to Colin, and the engagement is shadowed by the secret she has been keeping from him. Showrunner Jess Brownell, speaking in Netflix’s Part 2 coverage, put her arc this way: “Penelope learns to speak up for herself and learns the importance of being honest, which is something that got her in trouble last season.” By the finale she marries Colin and publicly reveals that she wrote Whistledown.
Coughlan has defended the character’s motives while acknowledging her missteps. In an interview quoted by Shondaland, she said: “I think she’s misguided, but I think she thinks she’s doing the right thing … but she’s not cruel.”
Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton)
Colin is Violet’s son and Penelope’s longtime friend. He returns from travel with new social confidence, and his earlier effort to help Penelope find a husband complicates his own feelings for her. In Part 2 he has to work through what Penelope’s secret means: the harm her writing has done and the value it has had. He and Penelope marry by the finale.

Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie)
Eloise is Colin’s sister and was once Penelope’s closest friend. Netflix describes her as one of the few people who knows Penelope’s secret when Part 2 begins, and that knowledge keeps the two women estranged. The friendship’s strain is one of the season’s most personal conflicts, and it is separate from the romance plot.

The Bridgerton siblings and their household
Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd)
Francesca is the sixth Bridgerton child. Compared with her more demonstrative siblings, she is pragmatic and introverted. Brownell has said: “Francesca doesn’t always say what she’s feeling like the rest of the Bridgertons.” She debuts in society and marries John Stirling in Season 3. Hannah Dodd took over the role from Ruby Stokes. The Francesca storyline is also where the season makes its most significant book-to-screen change, covered in the next section.
Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell)
Violet is the matriarch and mother of the siblings. Her hopes for a grand romance do not always match Francesca’s quieter temperament. Violet also explores an adult romantic possibility of her own with Lord Marcus Anderson, described below.

Anthony and Kate Sharma (Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley)
Anthony is the eldest Bridgerton sibling, and Kate is his wife. Both are established members of the family in Season 3, so they work best in this guide as supporting family context rather than as the season’s central couple.
Hyacinth and Gregory Bridgerton (Florence Hunt and Will Tilston)
The youngest Bridgerton siblings are included in Netflix’s series-regular cast list. In this season they are supporting presences in the ensemble rather than drivers of the main plots.
Francesca’s husband, and the Michaela question
John Stirling (Victor Alli)
John is Francesca’s husband. The official Netflix profile of Francesca describes him as winning her over by commissioning music to her exact specifications. The two marry during Season 3.

Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza)
Michaela is John’s cousin. She appears at the final ball after Francesca and John’s wedding and is headed to Scotland with the couple. Netflix’s finale explainer answers the literal question “Who is Michaela Stirling?” by explaining that she is the television version of a major character from Julia Quinn’s novels.
That character is Michael Stirling in the novel When He Was Wicked, the sixth Bridgerton book, which centers on Francesca. The show makes a deliberate change, turning Michael into Michaela. The two are different adaptations of the same role, not the same character under two names, so readers should not expect the book’s Michael to appear as Michaela on screen.

Benedict and his Part 2 circle
Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson)
Benedict is Colin’s older brother, and his Part 2 arc runs through Lady Tilley Arnold and her friend Paul Suarez. In Netflix’s showrunner interview, Brownell describes Benedict as sexually fluid by the finale and says he can communicate this confidently to a partner. Interpretation of the character’s sexuality belongs to Brownell as showrunner, not to this guide.

Thompson has described the character’s central tension this way: “One thing I agree with people saying is how he’s sort of trapped in his own freedom, and that his desire to be free and to not have any sort of roots anywhere is also his trap, which I thought was a really great way of putting it.”
Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New)
Tilley is a widow and an independent member of the ton who becomes involved with Benedict. New, quoted by Shondaland, said: “It’s nice to see a character that kind of doesn’t have to play by all of the ton rules.”
Paul Suarez (Lucas Aurelio)
Paul is Tilley’s close friend. He and Benedict share a charged moment, and Tilley and Paul invite Benedict into their intimacy. The episode-level details of this triangle are part of how the season shows Benedict’s growing self-understanding.
The Featheringtons
- Portia Featherington (Polly Walker). Penelope’s mother and head of the household. She is focused on the family’s security and standing, and she is a key source of pressure around marriage and reputation.
- Prudence Featherington (Bessie Carter). One of Penelope’s sisters. Her marriage and household storyline connect to the family’s social standing. Her new husband is involved in the balloon incident that Netflix’s recap covers.
- Philippa Featherington (Harriet Cains). Penelope’s other sister, whose storyline also ties back to the family’s reputation.
- Mrs. Varley (Lorraine Ashbourne). The Featherington household’s longtime housekeeper and a series regular. She belongs in a complete household list, though she is not a plot driver.
Queen Charlotte, the court and the wider ton
- Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel). The monarch whose interest in Whistledown’s author shapes the stakes of Penelope’s secret. Her reaction to the public reveal is amusement rather than punishment, per Netflix.
- Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh). A prominent society figure and Queen Charlotte’s confidante, and one of the returning regulars.
- Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen). A member of the ton whose actions intersect with the Whistledown identity crisis and with her own social reputation. The season gives her a place within broader social and economic pressures on women, so she is better understood as a figure in those pressures than as a one-note villain.
- Lord Debling (Sam Phillips). A suitor for Penelope. Brownell describes him as seeking a practical match, because his interests in conservation and exploration leave him unsure he has room for love. That contrasts with Penelope’s wish for romantic passion.
- Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis). A charming prospect for Violet. Netflix’s explainer describes him as patient and respectful of Violet’s pace. Francis has responded to viewers who read Marcus as having “player vibes,” reported by Shondaland.
- Genevieve Delacroix (Kathryn Drysdale). A modiste in the supporting cast, useful context for Penelope’s appearance and her access to society.
- Brimsley (Hugh Sachs). Queen Charlotte’s close attendant, listed among the additional key cast.
The Mondriches
Will Mondrich (Martins Imhangbe) and Alice Mondrich (Emma Naomi) are a married couple whose social position changes when Will inherits a title. The season places them among the wider ton and gives Alice a new public role. Both are named in Netflix’s official cast and character announcement.
