Spoilers for Bridgerton Season 3, Episode 6. In “Romancing Mister Bridgerton,” Penelope resumes writing as Lady Whistledown to stop Cressida from using the name to spread malicious lies. Eloise helps her, but Colin discovers Penelope’s secret in the episode’s final moments.
Which episode is Season 3, Episode 6?
The official title is “Romancing Mister Bridgerton.” “XOXO, Lady Whistledown” is not the episode’s listed title. The installment shares its name with Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novel, but that does not mean the episode reproduces the book scene by scene. Netflix identifies Quinn’s novels as source material for the series (Netflix Tudum’s Season 3 overview).
Season 3 has eight episodes and arrived in two batches: Part 1 premiered May 16, 2024, and Part 2 on June 13, 2024. Episode 6 is part of Part 2 (About Netflix’s release announcement).
Why does Penelope write as Lady Whistledown again?
Cressida claims to be Lady Whistledown in hopes of collecting the Queen’s reward. Eloise sees a possible escape in the lie: if Penelope stops writing and lets Cressida keep the false identity, Colin might never learn the truth, and the family could avoid further harm. Penelope initially agrees to give up the column.

That solution collapses when Cressida and her mother produce writing that could make the claim convincing. Eloise realizes that she has been confiding in Cressida for months—and that her family may once again be put at risk. Penelope chooses to help Eloise and asks to use her writing for a better purpose. As Penelope puts it, “I have done plenty of damage with my pen. Please let me use it now to do some good.”
Eloise supports her return to the page. Penelope’s decision is not simply a return to her old routine: Cressida’s fraudulent claim threatens to give her control of the Whistledown name and a platform for malicious lies. Shondaland’s episode-by-episode account of Penelope and Eloise’s friendship follows their renewed collaboration.
When does Colin find out Penelope is Lady Whistledown?
Colin discovers Penelope’s secret in the final moments of the episode, as she hands her latest issue off to be printed. The reveal follows directly from her decision to write again: Penelope is trying to counter Cressida’s false claim and protect the Bridgertons, but resuming publication exposes the secret she has kept from Colin. Netflix’s Season 3 ending retrospective likewise connects Penelope’s return to the threat posed by Cressida’s impersonation.
What happens in Benedict’s storyline?
Lady Tilley Arnold introduces Benedict to her close friend, Paul Suarez. Benedict and Paul share a charged moment while smoking; afterward, Benedict catches Tilley and Paul kissing. They are open about their relationship and invite him to join them. The encounter becomes a turning point in Benedict’s self-discovery, as Netflix describes in its retrospective on the season.
Why is Lady Danbury angry with Marcus?
The episode reveals the source of Lady Danbury’s anger toward her brother. When Agatha was young, she planned to escape just before her wedding. Marcus told their father and stopped her. Agatha had believed he did it to win their father’s favor; Marcus explains that he was a boy trying to protect his sister from facing a dangerous world alone.

Penelope’s attempt to use the column for good does not erase the harm caused by her past writing or resolve the consequences of keeping her identity secret. The episode instead puts those tensions together: she wants to speak for herself and protect people she cares about, but the act of publishing risks exposing her. Showrunner Jess Brownell told Netflix Tudum, “Penelope learns to speak up for herself and learns the importance of being honest, which is something that got her in trouble last season.”
Netflix reported 91.9 million views for Season 3 between May 16 and June 30, 2024, in the context of its all-time most popular English-language TV list. That is a season-level figure, not viewership for this episode (Netflix Tudum).
