Brian O’Conner’s green car in the first The Fast and the Furious is presented as a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The movie car’s reported build, however, differs from the turbocharged GS-T or all-wheel-drive GSX often associated with it: according to build information from technical advisor Craig Lieberman reported by The Drive, it used a naturally aspirated Chrysler 420A engine.
What car did Brian drive in the first Fast & Furious?
It was a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. A 2023 Fast & Furious collection issue also identifies the car as “MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE (1995),” supporting the model and year identification (Fanhome collection issue).
What engine was in the movie car?
The Drive’s 2019 account, drawing on first-film technical advisor Craig Lieberman’s build information, says the Eclipse had a naturally aspirated Chrysler 420A twin-cam 2.0-liter engine. It was not the turbocharged 4G63 setup associated with a GS-T or GSX. Movie dialogue, sound effects and presentation can suggest a turbo build, but those cues do not establish the car’s mechanical specification.
Reported modifications and output
The reported modifications were a cold-air intake, a Hotshot header and a bored-out throttle body. The Drive gives the build’s output as 140 horsepower at the crank; that figure is attributed to Lieberman’s build information, not presented as an independent dyno test.

Was the nitrous system real?
The car carried a visible 75-shot nitrous setup, but The Drive’s account says it was not plumbed into the engine. The film’s nitrous sequence therefore should not be taken as evidence that the system on this build was functional.
Why do some descriptions call it a turbo GS-T?
Online descriptions conflict. Some identify the car as a turbocharged GS-T with a 4G63, while The Drive explicitly distinguishes the first-film build from both the turbo GS-T and all-wheel-drive GSX. A replica-builder guide likewise describes a 1995 RS/420A basis, though it cautions that its information may be wrong (replica-builder guide). The most careful description is therefore a 1995 Eclipse with a naturally aspirated 420A, attributed to the technical-advisor-derived build account rather than inferred from how the car sounds or performs on screen.

What should replica builders verify?
A builder’s guide suggests starting with a 1995 RS/420A and points to styling and interior details such as a body kit, roof scoop, gauges and steering wheel. Treat these as leads, not a verified parts list: confirm fitment, part numbers and availability independently. The cited material does not establish a complete, independently verified bill of materials for an exact replica.
