How to read the ranking
Worldwide gross is not profit or earnings
A worldwide gross is the film’s reported ticket revenue across markets. It is not the amount a studio keeps after theaters and other costs, nor a measure of Pitt’s compensation. Box Office Mojo explains that its domestic category covers North America—“U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico”—unless otherwise noted, while international covers the rest of the world. Its data draws on studios, distributors, sales agents, and other sources; totals can change as reporting is updated. IMDb’s Box Office Mojo FAQ describes those definitions and data inputs.
The list counts substantial acting roles, not every credit
This ranking focuses on Pitt’s lead or otherwise substantial performances. It does not treat a brief cameo—such as his credited appearance as Vanisher in Deadpool 2—as equivalent to starring in a film. That distinction matters because a movie can be a major box-office hit without being one of Pitt’s leading-role successes.
Rank #2
Totals differ among sources
Worldwide grosses are not perfectly uniform across reporting sources or updates. For example, an actor-focused ranking reports F1 at $629.0 million rather than TheWrap’s $634 million, and gives different totals for several other films in this list. The figures here stay with TheWrap throughout; mixing figures from different sources would create a ranking that is not internally consistent.
The ranking is not inflation-adjusted
These are nominal totals for films released from 2004 through 2025. Adjusting for inflation or comparing ticket admissions could change the order, but the figures above do not make either adjustment.
