Pitt and Jolie met on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which they filmed in 2004. Jolie publicly confirmed their relationship in 2006, when she announced she was expecting a child with Pitt. Separation, divorce filing, and the 2016 flight allegations
Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. Public allegations about an incident during a private flight that month became part of the subsequent public and legal record. The accounts of the incident are disputed; allegations should not be treated as established findings.
The FBI did not pursue criminal charges, and child services closed its inquiry without a finding of abuse, according to the Associated Press. Those procedural outcomes describe what investigators did; they do not independently establish every disputed account of what happened.

Why the 2019 divorce declaration did not end the case
In 2019, a court declared Pitt and Jolie legally divorced and single, even though custody and property matters remained unresolved. A private judge’s decision in the proceedings was later vacated after an appeals court disqualified the judge in 2021, requiring the couple to restart that part of the process, the Associated Press reported.
The distinction matters: the 2019 declaration changed their legal marital status, but it did not conclude every issue in the divorce proceedings. Pitt and Jolie reached a divorce settlement in December 2024. Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, said in a statement reported by the AP, “Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.” Simon was referring to the divorce settlement; the statement described it as one part of a longer process, not as a resolution of every dispute.

The divorce settlement did not resolve the separate litigation concerning Château Miraval. In a court filing, Jolie described the French property as a place she and Pitt co-purchased in 2008 as a family home and business. That description is Jolie’s account in a party filing, not a court finding. The filing concerns a distinct legal dispute, and the AP reported that it continued after the divorce settlement. The sources cited here do not establish its final outcome. Jolie’s filing and the AP account provide the relevant context.
