The agreement addressed marital and property rights; the only specific financial term reported was that both waived future spousal support. The separate Château Miraval winery lawsuit was not resolved by the settlement.
Did Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie settle their divorce?
Yes. Jolie and Pitt signed the agreement on December 30, 2024. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott J. Nord approved it on December 31, according to The Associated Press. The filing concerned their marital and property rights.
Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, described the agreement as one stage in a longer process: “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.” The Los Angeles Times also reported the settlement and Simon’s statement.
What were the settlement terms?
The specific financial term reported by AP was that both parties gave up the right to future spousal financial support. AP said the filing disclosed no other details. The reported information does not establish how assets were divided or what other private provisions the agreement may contain.

Are their legal disputes over?
No. The settlement ended the agreement phase of their divorce proceedings, but it did not resolve the separate litigation over Château Miraval, the winery in France. The divorce settlement and the winery lawsuit are distinct matters; the reported agreement should not be treated as an end to all legal conflict between them.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why did the divorce take eight years?
Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. In 2019, a judge declared the pair legally single, while property division and custody questions continued separately. As the AP account and the Los Angeles Times account describe, a privately hired judge had issued a custody decision, but an appeals court removed that judge over a conflict-of-interest issue and vacated the decision, requiring the process to start again. Over the years that followed, four of the couple’s six children became adults, so custody terms were no longer needed for them.

Private-judge proceedings kept many details out of public view. The cited reporting does not establish the full course of negotiations or the settlement’s confidential terms. The eight-year period describes this couple’s timeline from the 2016 filing to the December 2024 settlement, not a general measure of how long divorce cases take.
