Bowen Yang said an unnamed Saturday Night Live host made multiple cast members cry after reacting badly to ideas pitched before a Wednesday table read. Yang has not publicly identified the host in the accounts available, and fan guesses are unverified.
What Bowen Yang said happened
Yang recounted the incident on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen during the show’s “Truth or Kink” segment. Asked about the worst host behavior he had witnessed on Saturday Night Live, he said: “This man who– this person, this host, made multiple cast members cry on Wednesday, before the table read.” He said the host “hated the ideas.” Bravo’s official clip presents the story as a host making cast members cry because the host disliked the ideas being pitched. Entertainment Tonight also reports Yang’s account.
The detail Yang gave concerns the host’s response to ideas before the table read. It does not establish further conduct beyond that description. Andy Cohen reacted, “Wow, that’s terrible,” according to The Independent.
Why Yang said the moment may have hit hard
In a later conversation on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, Yang described the pressure around writing sketches. Us Weekly reproduced his example: “Imagine you stay up until 4 a.m. writing a sketch and then the host is like, ‘I f—ing hate this.’” Yang connected that kind of pressure and frayed nerves to what he called a “weird, bizarre emotional response.” Us Weekly’s follow-up also reports his clarification that he was not saying he personally cried.

No. Yang did not publicly identify the host in these accounts. LateNighter notes that guesses circulated among fans, but offers no confirmation of an identity. Those guesses should not be treated as evidence; the host remains unnamed in the public reporting cited here.
