Its documented Bosch storyline is a Juan Doe investigation he suspects may connect to another murder—not a confirmed reveal of a “real target.” The episode’s tension also comes from Honey Chandler’s prosecution decision and Maddie Bosch’s continuing robbery investigation.
What happens in “Welcome to the Other Side”
Spoilers for the episode’s premise and published synopsis. The episode follows several strands rather than centering on one confirmed target reveal. Bosch works a Juan Doe case that may connect to another murder, while Mo searches for Finbar McShane and Maddie continues investigating follow-home robberies, according to the season guide. These are synopsis-level descriptions, not a scene-by-scene account.

The episode listing’s synopsis gives Chandler’s decision the clearest immediate consequence: “With Bosch’s discoveries in mind, Chandler charges Perry only with the robberies, not the murder; the police are outraged and any alliance with Chief Hughes ends.” (Rotten Tomatoes episode listing) That makes her choice more than a procedural detail: it puts her at odds with the police chief just as Bosch’s discoveries shape what can be charged.
How the episode’s storylines work together
| Strand | Plot function | Character stakes | Season role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bosch’s Juan Doe case | Provides the investigative mystery; he suspects a link to another murder. | Tests what Bosch can establish from his discoveries. | Connects with the season’s broader investigation. |
| Chandler and Perry | Turns a charging decision into a conflict with the police. | Her decision ends her alliance with Chief Hughes, according to the episode synopsis. | Advances her institutional and political storyline. |
| Maddie’s follow-home case; Mo’s search | Keeps the robbery investigation and search for Finbar McShane in play. | Extends the consequences of the follow-home crimes beyond Bosch’s case. | Maintains the season’s parallel character threads. |
This cross-cutting gives the hour several kinds of forward motion: a mystery to investigate, an institutional relationship breaking down, and a continuing robbery case. The trade-off is that Bosch’s Juan Doe thread shares space with Chandler’s and Maddie’s stories instead of carrying the episode alone. Whether that balance feels propulsive or dispersed will depend on how much a viewer values the ensemble structure.

Does Bosch uncover the real target?
The available episode synopsis does not confirm that Bosch identifies a “real target.” It says he is working a Juan Doe case he suspects may be connected to another murder; the Rotten Tomatoes synopsis refers to his discoveries but does not specify a target reveal. The headline’s phrase is therefore best read as a question or dramatic framing, not a verified plot outcome.
Where episode 7 sits in the final season
Season 3 is the series’ 10-episode final season. Amazon says it premiered March 27, 2025, with the finale arriving April 17. Its broader story follows Bosch’s investigation and a missing family, Chandler’s Los Angeles district attorney campaign, and Maddie’s involvement in follow-home robberies (Amazon season listing; Amazon season announcement).
The season draws on Michael Connelly’s novels Desert Star (2022) and The Black Ice (1993), as described by Amazon and the series creator. That is a season-level source-material connection; it does not establish that episode 7 specifically adapts either book.
