Spoilers for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapters 8 and 9. The beloved dead character is Kurama, the Nine-Tails. What chapter 8 only suggested—when Himawari showed access to Kurama’s chakra—was reported as an actual return in chapter 9, when Kurama met Himawari. The 2024 “can finally” framing is no longer just a possibility.
Who is the beloved dead character in Boruto?
It is Kurama, the Nine-Tails, Naruto Uzumaki’s longtime tailed-beast companion. The question arose because Kurama had died, and readers noticed that Himawari appeared to have a connection to his chakra in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 8.
A March 31, 2024 Screen Rant article treated that chapter 8 clue as grounds for speculation about a return, not as confirmation that Kurama had revived. Later coverage of chapter 9 reported that Kurama had returned and met Himawari. The key distinction is chronological: chapter 8 raised the possibility; chapter 9 was reported as the reveal. The chapter 9 report, reproduced in an IMDb news index, attributes the development to the manga, though the original chapter text is not available in that report.
What happened between chapters 8 and 9?
Chapter 8 introduced the clue
In March 2024, Himawari’s access to Kurama’s chakra made a return seem possible. The original article presented that idea as speculation. Chakra access alone was not the same thing as a confirmed return.

Chapter 9 brought the reported reveal
Later coverage said chapter 9 showed Kurama returning and meeting Himawari. That means an article answering the question today should describe the return as a subsequent development, not leave readers with the earlier chapter 8 tease as though it were still unresolved. The detailed scene is reported secondhand here; the official series catalog establishes publication context, not the contents of that encounter.
Where the manga stands now
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is a monthly simulrelease manga by Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto, according to MANGA Plus by Shueisha’s series catalog. The catalog listed chapter 37, “Trust,” dated September 17, 2026. It showed October 20, 2026 as the next chapter date; that was a scheduled future date at the time displayed, not evidence that chapter 38 had already been released.
