The Bon Scott Estate launched bonscottofficial.com on July 9, 2021, the singer’s 75th birthday, featuring previously unseen artefacts, tributes and archive footage. The launch was an estate decision, but lawyer Damian Rinaldi said the family’s response to Perth’s Highway to Hell event helped persuade them that the time was right to share the material. The 2021 report does not identify fans who uncovered particular objects: their role was to help inspire the archive, not to make documented individual discoveries.
What did the Bon Scott website reveal?
The estate’s site brought together artefacts, tributes and footage spanning Scott’s career, alongside a place for fans to leave memories. PerthNow’s July 9, 2021 report described the material as previously unseen, but did not publish an item-by-item inventory. It therefore establishes the breadth of the archive, not the identity or provenance of specific objects.

The project was framed as a portrait of Scott in his own right, rather than an AC/DC-only tribute. Rinaldi explained the aim: “Rather than just seeing Bon as a subset of AC/DC we wanted the focus to be on Bon and not limited to just AC/DC”.
How did Perth fans help bring the archive forward?
According to Rinaldi, the family had been moved by the community response to Perth’s Highway to Hell event in early 2020. He called it “the watershed moment” for them and said it helped convince the family that the time had come to share material held by the estate.

That account makes the fans’ contribution collective and indirect: the event demonstrated local enthusiasm for Scott’s memory, prompting an estate-led decision. The contemporaneous report does not name individual fans as discoverers or connect particular artefacts to them.
Why did the estate tell a story beyond AC/DC?
Scott’s career began before he joined AC/DC. Born Ronald Belford Scott in Forfar, Scotland, on July 9, 1946, he moved to Australia as a child; his family settled in Fremantle in 1956. The estate’s official history traces his early musical development through The Spektors, The Valentines and Fraternity, before his time with AC/DC.

That wider timeline shaped the archive’s stated purpose. Scott is closely associated with AC/DC songs including “T.N.T.,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” “Let There Be Rock” and “Highway to Hell,” but the estate wanted the website to preserve the story of the musician across his career, not only his best-known band.

Rinaldi described estate management as an effort to protect and manage Scott’s legacy. In the 2021 report, he also mentioned access to legitimate merchandise and royalty tracking. Those remarks describe the estate’s priorities as presented at the time; they are not a current accounting of its operations.

The official history dates Scott’s death to February 19, 1980, at age 33. The archive launch, more than four decades later, gave fans a way to encounter material and memories associated with both his pre-AC/DC career and his years with the band. The estate’s current homepage continues to invite fans to submit stories and photographs for review; the site’s contents and submission details may change.
