Spoilers for Blink Twice (2024). The women’s memory loss on Slater King’s island is caused by desideria, a drug that conceals the men’s repeated assaults. Snake venom helps restore their memories. Frida survives the ensuing fight, then takes Slater’s public position—and appears to use the same memory-erasing method on him. The ending is both a revenge payoff and an unsettling sign that the cycle of power and control continues.
What happens at the end of Blink Twice?
Frida and her friend Jess accept an invitation to the private island of tech CEO Slater King. The women experience hazy days and missing time because the men use desideria, a fictional flower-derived substance that causes amnesia and hides the assaults happening at night. Snake venom counteracts the drug’s memory effects.
When Jess recovers her memories, she tries to escape, and Slater kills her. Frida eventually remembers that she and Jess had been on the island before; the red rabbit and the scar near Frida’s eye are among the clues that her memories conceal more than a single visit. Once the women recover their memories, they fight back. Frida, Sarah, and Slater survive.
Why does Frida take over Slater’s life?
Director and co-writer Zoë Kravitz says Frida wants Slater’s power, not simply Slater himself: “Frida doesn’t want Slater King, she wants to be Slater King.” Kravitz has described the film as a story about power and argued that it matters to name women’s desire for it.

At the final gala, Frida appears as head of the King Foundation, with Slater presented as her husband. He is visibly impaired and unable to remember what happened. The scene implies Frida has used the same memory-erasing mechanism on him that Slater used on the women. Rather than leave the island and the system behind, she claims his position within it.
What do the clues on the island reveal?
- The red rabbit and Frida’s scar: They point to Frida’s earlier visit to the island, a past that the drug has hidden from her.
- Missing time, dirt, and unexplained injuries: The gaps obscure the repeated assaults taking place while the women are drugged.
- Red gift bags and photographs: These suggest a recurring operation involving male guests, not an isolated incident. The idea that guests take the perfume away is an interpretation of those clues.
- Snake venom: The snake keeper has learned that venom counteracts desideria’s memory effects. Jess’s bite restores her memories, and Frida later uses venom to help the other women remember.
- The gala: Frida’s new public role and Slater’s confusion show that she has taken his position and appears to have subjected him to the same memory loss.
Is the ending justice, revenge, or a cycle continuing?
It can be read as revenge and survival in a world where institutional justice seems unavailable: Frida gains wealth, status, and control from the man who abused her and killed her friend. But the victory is morally uncomfortable because she appears to repeat his method, controlling Slater’s memory while inheriting his role.

Those readings are not mutually exclusive. Frida’s act can feel cathartic as revenge and troubling as a transfer of power rather than a break from its abuses. Kravitz says that Frida taking over and the cycle continuing was always the intended destination, though an early draft had Slater die. She also says there is no right answer about the final look or whether Frida is happy, leaving viewers to judge what the cost of her victory means.
