The five Special War Threats in Bleach are Ichigo Kurosaki, Kenpachi Zaraki, Ichibe’e Hyosube, Sosuke Aizen, and Kisuke Urahara. The Wandenreich’s designation reflects five different strategic concerns—not a ranking of the five strongest fighters.
Who are the five Special War Threats?
The name refers to people the Wandenreich viewed as unusually consequential to the war against Soul Society. A secondary Bleach reference associates each person with a different variable: latent ability, fighting strength, wisdom, spiritual pressure, or means. Ichigo Kurosaki: latent ability
Ichigo’s threat is tied to his unusual potential and mixed heritage, not only to the strength he had already demonstrated when the assessment was made.
Kenpachi Zaraki: fighting strength
Zaraki represents direct combat ability. The reference says he was originally first on the list. After Royd Lloyd defeated him, Ichigo was treated as the list’s most dangerous member—an indication that the assessment could shift as events unfolded.

Ichibe’e Hyosube: wisdom
Ichibe’e’s danger lies in strategic knowledge and experience: the ability to judge a situation and plan around it, not merely win a duel.
Sosuke Aizen: spiritual pressure
Aizen is associated with overwhelming reiatsu, or spiritual pressure. That makes him a threat for a reason distinct from Zaraki’s direct fighting strength.

Kisuke Urahara: means
Urahara’s resourcefulness and knack for devising or adapting plans make him difficult to predict or contain. In this assessment, his practical means are the threat.
Are the Special War Threats ranked by strength?
No. The label is a strategic assessment from the Wandenreich’s perspective, not an objective declaration that these are the five strongest people in the series. Its categories—potential, combat strength, wisdom, spiritual pressure, and resourcefulness—do not collapse into one power scale. The reported change in ordering during the war reinforces that the list reflected an evolving assessment, rather than a fixed ranking of who would win in a fight. Secondary Bleach reference

How the designation fits the Thousand-Year Blood War story
The designation matters because the Wandenreich considers certain individuals capable of changing the war’s outcome in different ways. It is best understood as the enemy’s appraisal of risk, not as a narrator’s universal verdict about strength.
The anime’s closing arc continues the conflict around the Soul King. In a July 4, 2026 media alert, VIZ described Ichibe Hyosube entrusting Ichigo and his allies with protecting the Soul King, while Yhwach’s trickery leads Ichigo to cut the Soul King down. VIZ said the final chapter was scheduled to begin streaming July 25 on Hulu and Disney+.
