The film premiered on JioCinema on June 7, 2024; that is its historical release information, not a guarantee it is available there now. Critics in the reviews cited below were largely unimpressed with how the caper develops.
Blackout movie review: premise versus execution
Written and directed by Devang Shashin Bhavsar, Blackout stars Vikrant Massey as Lenny, an investigative journalist who is out on an errand for his wife when a blackout leads him to a stash of money. The discovery draws him into a succession of criminal encounters in Pune. Sunil Grover and Mouni Roy are among the ensemble cast, alongside Jisshu Sengupta, Ruhani Sharma, Anant Joshi and Prasad Oak.

The setup promises a pressured, night-long scramble in which an unexpected windfall keeps changing hands and loyalties. The critical question is whether the film’s many characters and turns build into a coherent caper or leave the story feeling scattered. The available reviews lean toward the latter, though they represent a limited sample rather than every viewer’s response.
What the reviews say about the caper
Nandini Ramnath’s Scroll review describes a frenetic, overcaffeinated comedy whose rapid-fire events may exasperate rather than entertain. Shubhra Gupta’s Indian Express review rated the film 0.5/5 and faulted the gap between its energetic premise and execution. Monika Rawal Kukreja’s Hindustan Times review found that the caper starts promisingly but loses its way in the second half.

Those criticisms point to a tension at the center of the film’s design: speed and a crowded ensemble can create comic momentum, but they also need to connect the characters and subplots. Moneycontrol’s review notes timestamps, freeze frames and flashbacks used to supply character backstories and give the film a graphic-novel-like feel. Whether those devices make the story feel brisk or episodic is a useful way to judge the movie for yourself; the published reviews do not support a claim that all viewers will react the same way.
Blackout OTT release: where to watch Blackout
Contemporary coverage reported that Blackout released on JioCinema on June 7, 2024. The Scroll review and Indian Express review both identify JioCinema as its streaming home at release. This records the original platform and date; streaming catalogs and service names can change.

Catalog pages also surfaced a Blackout listing on Airtel Xstream Play associated with JioHotstar and a Tubi title page, which lists English subtitles. These listings do not establish that the film is available in every country, what it currently costs, or whether access is included with a subscription.
- Search for Blackout in the streaming services available in your country.
- Open the title page and confirm that it is the 2024 Hindi film before choosing a viewing option.
- Check whether access is included, rented or purchased, and review the current terms before paying.
- Confirm the available audio and subtitle languages, plus device compatibility, on the service itself.
Is Blackout worth watching?
Consider Blackout if a high-energy crime-comedy setup and a large ensemble appeal to you, and you are comfortable with the possibility that the many turns may not form a satisfying whole. If you prioritize tightly connected plotting or a second half that sustains its opening promise, the cited reviews offer reasons to be cautious. That is a judgment based on those reviewers’ assessments, not a universal verdict.
