The “And So It Goes” music companion comes in two distinct forms: Newsday reported a seven-hour, 155-track streaming playlist, while Billy Joel and Legacy Recordings announced a separate 100-track digital-only companion album. The counts refer to different releases—not competing versions of one confirmed track list.
What is the 155-track playlist?
Newsday reported in July 2025 that the streaming playlist tied to HBO’s two-part documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes runs seven hours and contains 155 tracks. Newsday also identified Steve Cohen, Joel’s longtime creative director, as a co-producer of the playlist. Those details are Newsday’s reporting; they are not the track count or producer credit given in the artist and label’s album announcement. Read Newsday’s report.

How is it different from the 100-track album?
On July 25, 2025, Billy Joel and Legacy Recordings announced a 100-track digital-only release titled Billy Joel: And So It Goes, available July 26. The announcement described it as a companion piece that would “mirror the tracks from the film and more,” with hits, alternate versions and live performances. That 100-track album is distinct from the broader 155-track streaming playlist reported by Newsday.
| Release | What is established | Format | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| “And So It Goes” streaming playlist | 155 tracks; seven hours, as reported in July 2025 | Streaming playlist | Newsday |
| Billy Joel: And So It Goes companion album | 100 tracks; announced July 25, 2025, for July 26 availability | Digital-only album | Billy Joel and Legacy Recordings |
The official announcement said the album contains eight never-before-released songs. Named examples include “December Theme (December Song)” from the Cold Spring Harbor sessions, “My Life (From The 100th – Live At Madison Square Garden),” and “An Innocent Man (Live In London).” It also highlighted “Tomorrow Is Today (2025 Mix),” “You’re My Home (Live At Sparks),” “Everybody Has A Dream (Cold Spring Harbor Sessions),” “Vienna (Nuremberg Masterclass),” and “No Man’s Land (The Shelter Island Sessions).” These are examples called out in the album announcement, not a complete track listing.

Where can you listen?
Billy Joel’s official “And So It Goes” companion hub links to listening destinations including Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, Beatport, Deezer, SoundCloud, Qobuz, Pandora, Tidal and YouTube. Listings and availability may vary by service and territory. The hub does not provide a current itemized track list, and the official pages do not establish a service-by-service track count.
How does the playlist relate to the documentary?
HBO’s two-part Billy Joel: And So It Goes debuted July 18, 2025, according to Warner Bros. Discovery’s pressroom. The announcement named Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin as directors and described the film as “an expansive portrait of the life and music of Billy Joel.” The album and playlist are musical companions to that documentary, rather than physical editions of it.

What else did the release announcement say?
The July 2025 artist and label announcement said archival rarities discovered during the documentary’s creation would be released through Joel’s YouTube channel over the following year. It named planned material including “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant (Live At CW Post),” Joel’s first TV appearance, “Long, Long Time,” and performances of “Ain’t No Crime,” “Stiletto” and “Sometimes A Fantasy.” These were plans announced at the time; the announcement alone does not establish the current release status of each item.
The same announcement scheduled Greatest Hits Volume I and II to return on black vinyl on August 22, 2025. That is a separate catalog release, not a physical edition of the 100-track digital companion or the 155-track playlist.
