In Glendale, Arizona, amid confetti at State Farm Stadium, the actor embraced Luke, then an assistant coach for the Huskies.
What happened after UConn beat Purdue?
UConn’s 75–60 victory over Purdue on April 8, 2024, secured the Huskies’ second consecutive NCAA tournament championship. After the final, Bill Murray joined Luke on the court at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. ABC News’ April 9 report describes video shared by NCAA March Madness showing the father and son embracing amid confetti: Bill holds Luke while Luke reaches for his father’s shoulders.
Who is Luke Murray?
Luke Murray is Bill Murray’s son and a basketball coach. He joined Dan Hurley’s UConn staff before the 2021–22 season and was an assistant coach for the Huskies’ 2023 and 2024 championship teams, according to UConn Athletics’ coaching profile.
How the celebration connects to UConn’s 2023 title
The 2024 victory was a separate championship from the one UConn won the previous season. On April 3, 2023, the Huskies beat San Diego State 76–59 for their fifth national title. Bill Murray attended that game as a fan, while Luke was on the coaching staff. UConn’s recap of the 2023 final records that result and Bill’s presence. A year later, the win over Purdue made UConn the back-to-back tournament champion.
