Kenney Kelley said he initially suspected Angela Murray’s explosive confrontation with Matt Hardeman on Big Brother 26 was scripted—and even wondered whether she was a production “plant.” But in the same interview, Kelley said he did not think Angela was actually playing a role. His comment described his first impression, not evidence that CBS had placed her in the house to disrupt the game.
Why Kenney Kelley thought Angela might be a plant
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, republished by Yahoo Entertainment on August 9, 2024, Kelley recalled Angela coming down the stairs clapping and confronting Matt. His immediate reaction, he said, was: “This is scripted!” He wondered aloud whether she was “Ainsley’s puppet in the house” and said, “So I thought it was part of the game, to be honest with you.”
Those remarks were Kelley describing what the confrontation looked like to him in the moment. The interview does not establish that the scene was scripted or that Angela had a special arrangement with production.
What Kelley said after that first impression
Kelley immediately qualified the plant speculation: “But I don’t think she’s playing.” His view of Angela was more complicated than a claim that she was acting. He said he disagreed with her early confrontational behavior, but later saw a kind side to her and noted that she had advocated for him to stay. He also felt she had become someone she might not have expected to be during the early weeks, when she was Head of Household and not sleeping. These were Kelley’s impressions, not a definitive account of Angela’s motives.

What Big Brother producers said about the speculation
Us Weekly reported on August 13, 2024, that executive producers Rich Meehan and Allison Grodner responded to fan theories that Angela had been inserted to disrupt the game. Meehan said he understood why people wondered about her after surprising and shocking events, and called the conspiracy theories funny. Grodner was reported as saying Angela was not put in the game by production specifically to disrupt it, while joking that the idea was a “good idea.”
Grodner also said Angela’s appearances on The Price Is Right and a Dr. Phil episode did not necessarily make her an actor. Meehan distinguished those appearances from a competition reality show, describing The Price Is Right as a fun game show. These are the producers’ remarks as reported by Us Weekly; they address the theory but do not provide a detailed account of casting decisions.

The season events behind the suspicion
The plant theory took hold amid early-season conflict and twists. Us Weekly’s account places the speculation alongside Angela’s confrontation with Matt and the week-three sequence in which Tucker Des Lauriers used the Power of Veto to save Angela, after which Kelley was evicted.
The interview described Kelley as a 52-year-old former undercover officer from Boston who had spent nearly three weeks in the house. It reported that he was evicted on day 24 by a 10–1 vote. Kelley said he had underestimated how hard it would be to be away from his wife and children, and described his time in the house as having “more downs than ups.”

A Hamsterwatch recap dated July 29 records Angela discussing a game power that could take over the Head of Household’s nominations, and Kelley telling housemates he thought the women had formed an alliance. That fan recap offers context for the season’s twists and suspicions; it does not prove a production conspiracy.
