For a personal study display, open a video in the playlist and turn on YouTube’s playlist Loop control. For a public study room that viewers can visit as a live destination, looping a playlist is not enough: configure a YouTube Live stream and keep a video source and encoder running. The right setup depends on whether you need repeat playback on one device or a shared livestream on your channel.
Choose between looping playback and a public live room

YouTube documents playlist repeat and livestreaming as separate functions. Playlist Loop is a playback control, not a way to turn a playlist into a public live room. See YouTube’s playlist repeat instructions and encoder livestreaming guidance.
Set a playlist to repeat on your device
- Open a video that belongs to the playlist.
- Expand the playlist panel in the player.
- Select the playlist Loop control. On mobile, TV, or a gaming console, use the corresponding repeat control in the YouTube player interface.
On computer and mobile, YouTube distinguishes repeating a single video from repeating the playlist. Choose the playlist-level control when you want the complete study mix to cycle. The playback session and device still need to remain available; this does not create a channel livestream.
Set up a public 24/7 study-room livestream
1. Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming
Your channel must be verified and must not have livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live enablement can take up to 24 hours, so complete this before announcing a launch. YouTube’s current help guidance also states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Check YouTube’s instructions for starting a live stream for the current account requirements.

2. Create the stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream and set its title, description, visibility, and other metadata.
- Create or select a stream key, then enter the stream URL and key in your chosen software or hardware encoder.
- Choose stream settings, including whether to enable DVR so viewers can pause, rewind, and resume the live stream.
YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. For a straightforward study room, software encoding may be sufficient; a hardware encoder is an optional route for a more involved production. Review YouTube’s encoder setup guide for the current Live Control Room workflow.
3. Be careful when reusing a previous stream
YouTube’s reuse option copies the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key. It can also carry over auto-start and auto-stop selections. Before starting a new room from a reused setup, confirm the title, visibility, key, and start/stop behavior are correct. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

4. Check the feed before inviting viewers
Send video and audio to the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm that the watch page is accessible and that both picture and sound are correct. YouTube advises creators to monitor audio and video quality continuously during a stream; an initial preview is not a substitute for ongoing checks. Its livestreaming tips cover preparation and monitoring.
5. Give the connection bandwidth headroom
The stream’s total bitrate must stay within the available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom, and warns that an unreliable connection can disrupt a stream. A wired Ethernet connection can be a useful option, but YouTube does not require one. Measure the actual upload connection available to the encoder, including other devices and traffic sharing it, rather than planning around the internet plan’s advertised download speed.

6. Plan for continuity rather than assuming it
A public 24/7 stream depends on the video source, encoder, power, network, and YouTube receiving the feed. YouTube’s setup guidance emphasizes reliable connectivity, previewing, and monitoring; it does not promise uninterrupted uptime or automatic failover for every creator’s setup. Decide who will notice a feed interruption and how it will be restarted before presenting the room as continuously available.
Protect the room from rights and policy problems
Use content you have the right to broadcast
YouTube’s livestream terms require the necessary rights for live content, including applicable music licensing rights. Use your own video and audio, or confirm that your permissions and licenses cover livestreaming, the intended territories, and the way the material will be used. A video being publicly watchable or included in a playlist does not establish permission to rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service.

Keep titles and playlists accurate
Playlists must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines, including rules against misleading titles or descriptions and harmful collections. Describe the room and its contents honestly; do not imply that a stream contains material it does not. The YouTube Playlists policy explains the playlist-specific rules.
Do not assume repetition qualifies for monetization
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to livestreams. It may treat repetitive or mass-produced material as inauthentic content, and describes reused content as repurposed material without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Reused-content and copyright questions are separate: having rights to use material does not by itself establish monetization eligibility, and a playlist of other creators’ videos proves neither. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies before building a room around repeated or third-party material.

Do not confuse a series playlist with looping
YouTube’s series playlist feature is different from the Loop playback control. It requires a verified account, is limited to videos you uploaded and have rights to, and a video can appear in only one series playlist. It does not make the playlist repeat or create a livestream. - The playlist stops instead of becoming a public room: playlist Loop only repeats playback for the viewer. Create a YouTube Live stream and send it through an encoder for a public live destination.
- You cannot start a livestream: verify the channel and check for restrictions in the last 90 days. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- The stream is unstable or drops: compare the total stream bitrate with available upload bandwidth, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and check the reliability of the connection and other network use.
- The preview has the wrong picture or no sound: check the encoder’s selected video and audio sources, confirm the stream key and URL, and inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live.
- A reused broadcast starts or stops unexpectedly: inspect the copied auto-start and auto-stop selections, along with the stream key and metadata.
- A stream or playlist raises a policy concern: review rights for all video and music, make titles and descriptions accurate, and assess monetization separately from copyright permission.
