This ranking is a reasoned judgment based on in-ring execution, technical and stylistic range, timing, athletic control, match construction, adaptability and consistency. Title reigns, popularity and legacy provide context, but they are not substitutes for what a wrestler can do in the ring.
The pool spans WWE’s principal women’s singles championship histories, including the original Women’s Championship, the Divas Championship and the distinct championship lineage introduced in 2016. Because the titles and opportunities changed across eras, these placements are comparisons—not a claim that every wrestler had the same match time, presentation or conditions.
How this skill ranking works
The order weighs five things: clear and controlled execution; range across styles and opponents; timing and athletic control; the ability to build a match through pacing, escalation and selling; and consistency across a body of work. A long reign or a celebrated legacy does not automatically mean a higher skill ranking. Nor does one excellent match, by itself, settle the question.
There is no standardized, comparable skill measure for every eligible champion, so the placements below are editorial judgments rather than objective scores. The 2013 Bleacher Report ranking, for example, considered reign count and time as champion alongside impact and legacy; those are different criteria from a skill-first list. Which WWE women’s champions count?
“WWE Women’s Champion” can refer to distinct title histories. The original Women’s Championship began in 1956 and was retired in 2010 when it was unified into the Divas Championship. The championship introduced at WrestleMania 32 in 2016 is a separate lineage, not a continuation of the original belt. WWE says it was renamed the Raw Women’s Championship after the 2016 brand extension and returned to the WWE Women’s Championship name on SmackDown on June 9, 2023. This ranking treats champions across those principal singles-title histories as eligible, rather than limiting the field to the current belt or treating every title as one unbroken lineage. WWE’s women have also worked under different levels of opportunity and presentation: TIME’s 2025 retrospective notes the end of the Divas branding in 2016 and the women’s main event at WrestleMania 35 in 2019. The ranking
These placements reflect the criteria above, not reign totals. The original title’s lengthy history and the newer lineage’s different opportunities make exact cross-era comparisons inherently imperfect.

1. Becky Lynch
Lynch earns the top spot for the combination of timing, purposeful selling, and match structure she brings to high-pressure bouts. She is effective at making a contest feel like a sequence of decisions and consequences rather than a collection of moves. Her strength in this ranking is not simply that she has been a central champion, but that her work can sustain a story through escalation and clear transitions.
2. Charlotte Flair
Flair’s athletic control and ability to shift between power offense, technical exchanges and explosive sequences give her one of the broadest tool sets in the field. Her matches often benefit from clean pacing and an ability to make major moments register. She ranks just below Lynch because this list gives particular weight to consistency of match construction as well as physical range.
3. Asuka
Asuka’s distinctive striking and submission game gives her matches a recognizable rhythm, and her control of distance and timing helps different opponents adapt to her style. She can make exchanges feel urgent without relying on one kind of offense. Her versatility and ability to communicate character through movement put her near the top.

Stratus represents a different period in WWE’s women’s wrestling, when opportunities and presentation were not the same as those available to later champions. Within those conditions, her timing, athletic development and match instincts helped her produce work that remains a meaningful part of the division’s history. Era context is essential: the comparison is about demonstrated skill, not identical resources or match formats.

Lita brought an unusually dynamic aerial style to her matches and helped create a different pace from the more grounded approaches common in her era. This ranking recognizes that range while accounting for the fact that one dimension of a style is not the whole measure of ring craft.
8. Molly Holly
Holly’s technical grounding and disciplined execution make her an especially strong example of understated craft. She could keep exchanges controlled and purposeful, contributing to a coherent match without needing every moment to be spectacular. Her placement reflects the value of reliability and fundamentals alongside more conspicuous athletic range.
9. Mickie James
James combined energetic offense with a strong sense of pacing and character. She could make a match feel personal while maintaining clear action and momentum. Her skill set is broad enough to work across opponents and tones, though this ranking places several champions with greater stylistic range or sustained match-construction strengths above her.

WWE’s official title history records reigns and durations, which are useful for establishing who held a championship and when. They do not measure precision, adaptability or match quality. The same distinction applies to legacy and popularity. They can help explain why a champion matters to WWE history, but neither proves technical range or match-to-match consistency.
