First confirm your amp’s exact edition, then match the replacement’s size and impedance and choose a tone profile that suits you. Fender lists a 12-inch, 8-ohm Celestion A-Type for the Blues Junior IV, while its Lacquered Tweed listing specifies a 12-inch Jensen C12-N and 8-ohm total impedance. Those model-specific listings are a good reason not to assume every Blues Jr. shipped with the same speaker.
Start by identifying your Blues Junior edition
Fender’s Blues Junior IV product page specifies a 12-inch Celestion A-Type speaker and 8-ohm total impedance. Fender’s Lacquered Tweed listing specifies a Jensen C12-N and 8-ohm total impedance. These facts apply to the editions named on those pages; they do not establish the stock speaker in every Blues Junior revision or year.
Before buying, check the amplifier’s own label and documentation, and confirm the exact replacement model against the speaker manufacturer’s specifications. A matching nominal diameter and impedance are important checks, but do not by themselves prove that a speaker will mount or clear the cabinet.
Compare the documented speaker options
| Speaker | Published specifications | Manufacturer-described tone | What the evidence supports |
| Celestion A-Type, 8 ohms | 12 inches; 50 watts; 98 dB sensitivity. Celestion specifications; year not stated. | Celestion describes a laid-back midrange, full rounded lows, and smooth articulation. | Fender lists it as the Blues Junior IV stock speaker. A useful reference if you want that described character. |
| Eminence Red, White and Blues, 8 ohms | 12 inches; 120 watts. Eminence specifications; year not stated. | Eminence describes tight lows, warm mids, sparkling highs, and a classic American tone. | A candidate if that manufacturer-described character appeals to you. The cited material does not establish universal fit in Blues Junior cabinets. |
| Jensen C12-N | 12 inches; Fender lists 8-ohm total impedance for the Lacquered Tweed edition. | Fender identifies a Jensen speaker with a ceramic magnet; no comparative tone description is established here. | Fender’s listed stock-speaker reference for the Lacquered Tweed edition. Verify the exact part and fit before treating it as a replacement match. |
These descriptions come from Celestion’s A-Type product page and Eminence’s Red, White and Blues product page. They are manufacturers’ characterizations, not independent listening tests or proof that one speaker will sound best in your particular amp and setup.

- Preamp circuit modified for increased fullness
- Spring reverb modified for improved smoothness
- Includes 1-button footswitch for fat Mid boost
Choose by the sound you want, not a universal ranking
For a smoother, less-forward midrange
Celestion characterizes the A-Type as having a laid-back midrange, rounded low end, and smooth articulation. That makes it a reference point for players drawn to those stated qualities, and it is the speaker Fender lists for the Blues Junior IV.
For the described American-voiced character
Eminence describes the Red, White and Blues as having tight lows, warm mids, and sparkling highs. Consider it if that profile is what you are seeking, while treating the description as product guidance rather than a guaranteed result in your amp.
Rank #2
- Classic warm tube tone provided by the EL84 power tubes and 12ax7 pre-amp tubes
- Foot switchable "FAT" option adds thicker tones and subtle overdrive
- On board spring reverb for large echo effect
- Enjoy years of durability from the lacquer tweed cabinet
- Warm articulate tones provided by the Jensen P12N speaker
For a Lacquered Tweed stock reference
Fender names the Jensen C12-N on its Lacquered Tweed listing. The sources cited here do not provide a like-for-like tonal comparison between that Jensen and the other two options, so they do not support ranking it above or below them.
Check compatibility before ordering
- Size: The Fender listings cited here specify 12-inch speakers for the Blues Junior IV and Lacquered Tweed editions.
- Impedance: Fender specifies 8-ohm total impedance for those listed editions. Confirm the requirement for your exact amp rather than relying on the model name alone.
- Power rating: Celestion rates the A-Type at 50 watts; Eminence rates the Red, White and Blues at 120 watts. These are manufacturer specifications, not a recommendation that either speaker is automatically suitable for every revision.
- Physical fit: Check mounting pattern, speaker depth, and cabinet clearance against reliable documentation for your specific amp and the replacement. The product pages cited here do not establish fit across all Blues Junior revisions.
- Wiring and exact part: Verify the replacement’s exact variant and connection requirements before installation. Shared size and nominal impedance alone do not make two speakers interchangeable.
So which speaker should you choose?
Use the Celestion A-Type as the documented stock reference for the Blues Junior IV and the Jensen C12-N as the reference for Fender’s Lacquered Tweed listing. If you are considering the Eminence Red, White and Blues, its manufacturer-described tone offers a different direction, but confirm exact electrical and physical compatibility first. No controlled comparison in the cited sources establishes a universal winner.
