For a prerecorded YouTube channel that needs to stay live around the clock, StreamNeo is the most direct fit in this comparison: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer can be off. If you want a free, hands-on local setup, OBS Studio can loop a video file, but the computer running OBS must stay on and connected. Restream’s documented loop is limited to 10 plays and a 40-hour stream, while StreamYard documents scheduled prerecorded broadcasts—not an endless 24/7 loop.
Best alternatives for a looping prerecorded YouTube channel
| Option | What it does | Best fit | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Loops uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud to YouTube, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. | A channel that should keep playing without a computer or encoder running at home. | YouTube only; it plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera. |
| 2. OBS Studio | Its Media Source can restart a file when playback finishes. | A technically comfortable operator able to keep a computer and internet connection running. | It is a local encoder, not a managed cloud scheduler or 24/7 monitoring service. OBS Media Sources |
| 3. StreamYard | Scheduled prerecorded broadcasts can air automatically while the user is offline. | Scheduled events where a continuous, repeating channel is not required. | Its documentation does not establish endless looping. The pricing page retrieved lists prerecorded-stream limits of 2 hours on Core and 4 hours on Advanced; confirm current plan details. StreamYard pricing |
| 4. Restream | Schedules prerecorded videos and supports looping a video up to 10 times, with a maximum 40-hour looped stream. | Creators who want to retain Restream’s workflow for a finite prerecorded event. | Looping is paid, and playlists do not support looping. Restream’s looping documentation |
| 5. Custom YouTube Live Streaming API integration | Lets developers schedule broadcasts and associate broadcasts with video streams. | A developer building and maintaining a custom broadcast-control system. | The API is an implementation route, not a ready-made streaming service. There is no single best replacement for every Restream user. Match the tool to the actual requirement: continuous runtime, repeat behavior, whether a computer must remain on, automation and recovery, destinations, archive needs, plan limits, and budget.
What Restream’s loop can and cannot do
Restream documents a paid looping feature for prerecorded video: a video can play up to 10 times, and the looped stream can run for up to 40 hours. Its documentation says playlists cannot be looped. Those limits make it suitable for a bounded broadcast, not a perpetual channel that must restart or continue indefinitely. Check Restream’s current plan and storage terms before choosing it, since those details can change.
When OBS is the right alternative
OBS Studio is the clearest do-it-yourself option in the available product documentation. Add the recording as a Media Source and enable its Loop property; OBS describes that setting as controlling whether the file restarts after playback completes. OBS sends the output from the computer running the encoder, so the machine, OBS, and a stable internet connection all need to remain available for the broadcast. It is not a hosted scheduler, and the cited OBS documentation does not establish cloud uptime, automatic recovery, or managed 24/7 monitoring.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up a local OBS loop for YouTube Live
- Prepare the channel and broadcast in YouTube Studio. Confirm the channel is eligible to live stream, then create or schedule a live broadcast and obtain its stream key in YouTube Studio’s live control room. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. Use the YouTube ingest and stream settings shown for your broadcast; the sources cited here do not establish one universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for every channel and connection.
- Create the OBS scene. Open OBS, create a scene, and add a Media Source. Choose the prerecorded file. Enable Loop so the file restarts when playback completes. If you replace the file later, check the source path and confirm the new recording plays correctly.
- Configure the YouTube output. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect the stream key from YouTube Studio. In Settings → Output and Settings → Video, select settings your upload connection can sustain and that meet YouTube’s current guidance for the chosen resolution. Do not assume a higher bitrate or resolution is better if the connection cannot sustain it.
- Test before the scheduled start. Start the OBS stream and check YouTube Studio for a healthy incoming signal, correct picture and sound, and the expected broadcast destination. Verify the file loops by letting it reach the end. If you need the stream to be continuous, make sure the scene, source, encoder, computer, and network remain running.
- End or recover the broadcast deliberately. Stop streaming in OBS when the event is over. If the stream disconnects, check OBS’s connection and YouTube Studio’s status, then reconnect as appropriate. A local setup depends on the computer and connection; the cited OBS source does not promise automated reconnection or recovery.
StreamYard is for scheduled events, not proven 24/7 looping
StreamYard’s help documentation describes scheduling a prerecorded video so it airs at its selected time even if the creator is offline. Its help center states that prerecorded streams can be scheduled up to 365 days ahead. The pricing page retrieved lists a 2-hour prerecorded-stream limit on Core and 4 hours on Advanced. These are plan-specific limits shown at retrieval and may change; check the live plan page for current terms. None of those details establishes an endless loop or a continuously running channel, so StreamYard is a better candidate for scheduled broadcasts than for 24/7 playback.
When a custom YouTube API integration makes sense
Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API describes operations for scheduling broadcasts and associating a broadcast with a video stream. That gives developers building their own automation a control surface, but it does not itself provide the encoder, hosting, monitoring, recovery, or finished user workflow. Consider this route only if you can implement and maintain the integration and its authorized API operations.

Check YouTube rights and archive behavior
Copyright applies to prerecorded live streams
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content. A match can result in a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination. If you have a license for third-party material, the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and secure the necessary rights before broadcasting music, film, documentary footage, or other protected material.
A live duration and an archive are different requirements
Restream’s support pages state that YouTube has no duration limit for a live stream but archives only streams under 12 hours. This is Restream’s description of YouTube behavior, not a guarantee that applies in every current YouTube configuration. If an archived replay matters, verify YouTube’s current rules and settings before relying on a long broadcast. Restream on YouTube streaming limitations · Restream on YouTube stream duration
