For most people watching alone, the Onn 10-inch 480p Swivel Portable DVD Player Kit is the sensible pick: it has one rotating screen, USB and SD-card support, and up to five hours of advertised playback. Choose the Onn 10-inch Dual-Screen DVD Player if two passengers need to watch together. For Blu-ray discs, neither DVD-only model is suitable; Onn sells a separate portable Blu-ray player.
Prices and ratings below reflect Walmart listings captured on August 16, 2026, and can change with stock, location, and seller. These are portable physical-media players, not streaming devices.

Best overall for one viewer: the 10-inch swivel model
The single-screen Onn 10-inch 480p kit suits someone who wants to watch DVDs away from home without paying for a second screen. Its 10-inch display swivels 180 degrees, and the listing identifies USB and SD-card access, built-in speakers, a 3.5mm audio connection, and up to five hours of playback. The package listing names a remote, earbuds, AC adapter, car adapter, and quick-start guide.

#1 Best Overall
- ONN 10Inches Portable DVD Player 100008691
- Compatible with DVD+R, RW, CD-R, RW, JPEG AND MP3 media
- SD card reader , USB port , 3.5mm aux jack
- Built in stereo speakers , Up to 5 hrs of play time , 180 degree swivel
Its 480p resolution is modest by current display standards, but it is appropriate to a DVD-focused player at typical portable viewing distances. It is not a Full HD screen, and the product should not be mistaken for a tablet: the listing does not establish Wi-Fi, streaming apps, HDMI input, or Blu-ray playback. For a single viewer, its main advantage over the dual-screen kit is avoiding extra hardware and cost.
Best for two passengers: the dual-screen player
The dual-screen kit makes sense when two back-seat passengers need to watch the same program. Walmart’s detailed listing specifies two 10-inch TFT LCD panels at 1024 × 600, a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 12-volt car adapter, a second-screen cable, headrest straps, carry case, and two sets of earbuds. It also lists an AC/DC adapter and remote; that listing says the remote requires two AAA batteries. The detailed specifications are at Walmart’s business product page.
What the resolution means
The product title’s “1024p” wording can mislead: the detailed specification is 1024 × 600 pixels, not 1024 vertical pixels and not 1080p. That is a different and sharper panel specification than the single-screen model’s listed 480p, but it does not turn DVD source material into Full HD.
One shared program, not two independent players
The listing describes the second display as part of the same player system. It does not establish that each screen can independently play a different disc or file, so treat it as a shared-viewing setup unless the exact manual for your unit confirms otherwise.
When the premium is worthwhile
Pay more for the second screen when two passengers routinely watch together and the included mounting hardware and cables suit your vehicle. If one person watches, or you frequently move the player between car, bedroom, and bag, the dual-screen system adds bulk without solving a need. Its captured listing does not clearly state battery runtime, so do not assume it matches the single-screen model’s advertised maximum.

Are restored or pre-owned Onn players worth buying?
At the captured category prices—about $39.97 for restored stock or $49.98 pre-owned—an older swivel player can be a bargain if it works and includes the accessories you need. But a low purchase price does not tell you the battery’s condition, whether the optical drive reads discs reliably, or what return rights apply. Used and restored availability is volatile; check the exact offer and seller on the Onn DVD-player category page.
- Confirm the exact model and revision; older 7-inch, older 10-inch, current 10-inch, and dual-screen players are not interchangeable.
- Ask whether the battery was tested and, if possible, check its runtime. The original model’s “up to five hours” claim does not establish the condition of a used battery.
- Check that the remote, AC adapter, car adapter, and any model-specific cables or straps are included.
- Test a commercially produced DVD and a CD; inspect the display, swivel hinge, buttons, speakers, and headphone jack.
- Read the return window and condition terms before buying. Do not assume a used unit has the same warranty or return terms as new stock.
A separate older 7-inch Onn listing advertises 2.5 hours of battery life but is marked out of stock in the captured listing, so it is not a dependable current recommendation: older 7-inch listing.
What can an Onn portable DVD player play?
Discs and confirmed file types
The single-screen model listing identifies standard DVD and CD playback, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW, JPEG, and MP3 support. These are distinct capabilities: listing a disc type is not the same as confirming every file format that might be burned onto it.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →USB and SD are not universal video compatibility
The single-screen kit has USB and SD-card access, but the captured listing does not provide a complete video-codec or container list, subtitle support, maximum card capacity, or supported filesystem. Do not assume that every MP4, downloaded video, flash drive, or high-capacity card will work. If you rely on a particular file, test it on the exact player before a trip.
Blu-ray and streaming
The regular 10-inch swivel DVD kit is not identified as a Blu-ray player. The separate Onn portable Blu-ray/DVD model is the listing that specifies Blu-ray support, along with DVD, CD, USB, SD/MMC, HDMI, Dolby formats, and up to three hours of battery life. At about $208 in the August 16, 2026 snapshot, it is relevant mainly to people who own Blu-ray discs; it is a costly choice for a DVD-only collection. None of these listings establishes streaming-app support.

Features that matter in everyday use
Screen size, resolution, and swivel
A 7-inch player is easier to carry but offers a smaller viewing area; an older Onn 7-inch listing is currently marked out of stock and should be treated as intermittent stock, not a current alternative. A 10-inch single display is a practical compromise for one person. Two 10-inch displays serve a different purpose—sharing a view in the back seat—and require more space and cabling. Neither the 480p screen nor the 1024 × 600 panels should be described as 1080p Full HD.
Power and battery
“Up to five hours” is the single-screen manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed runtime. Brightness, volume, battery age, temperature, disc condition, and playback method can affect actual time. A car or AC adapter is useful insurance on longer journeys. For an older unit, the new-product battery claim says little about remaining capacity.

The listings identify built-in stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio connection; earbuds are included, with two sets in the dual-screen package. Speakers are convenient in a quiet room but can be hard to hear over road noise. Headphones may work better for passengers if used comfortably and at a safe volume. No captured listing establishes Bluetooth audio.
Car mounting and cables
The single-screen kit includes a car adapter. The dual-screen kit adds headrest straps and a cable connecting the second display. Before buying for a particular vehicle, check headrest-post spacing, strap length, seat shape, outlet location, and cable reach. Walmart’s review summary for the dual-screen model includes cord length as a negative discussion area; measure the distance from the 12-volt outlet to the player and between screens rather than assuming the cables will reach.
Controls and child safety
The listings identify parental or V-chip viewing controls, but these are not a substitute for adult supervision. Secure the player and screens so they cannot become projectiles, keep loose cables away from children, and position screens so they do not obstruct the driver’s view. Use headphones at a safe volume and follow applicable vehicle and local rules.

Common problems and practical fixes
A disc will not play
- Check that the disc is inserted correctly and try a commercially produced DVD known to work.
- Wipe fingerprints or dirt with a soft cloth, moving from the center outward; inspect for scratches.
- Verify that the disc format is among the formats listed for the model. Home-burned discs can fail if recorded in an unsupported format or not finalized.
- Turn the player fully off, restart it, and test another known-good disc before treating the drive as defective.
- If several known-good discs fail, use the seller’s return or applicable service process. Region restrictions and optical-drive wear, especially on used units, can also matter.
Battery runs out sooner than expected
Maximum brightness or volume, an aged battery, cold conditions, and use of USB or SD media can reduce runtime. Charge and test the player before leaving, and bring the appropriate AC or car adapter for a long trip. A dual-screen runtime is not stated clearly in the captured listing, so do not plan around the single-screen figure.
Screen is blank or the second display does not work
Check battery charge, power connections, and the cable between the primary and secondary units. On the dual-screen model, the detailed listing identifies separate DC connections and a display on/off switch; check the switch and connections before assuming a panel has failed.
Audio is too quiet
Check mute and volume settings, make sure the speakers are not blocked, and try headphones through the 3.5mm jack. Do not assume the player can route sound over Bluetooth.
Straps or cables do not fit the car
Check headrest-post spacing and strap length, then test the cable route and outlet reach before a journey. A strap’s inclusion does not establish fit on every headrest. Keep wires clear of passengers and controls, and do not mount a display where it can distract the driver.
Quick Recap
When another type of player is a better fit
- A cheaper single-screen DVD player: Compare 7-inch options if portability and price matter more than viewing area. The captured Walmart results include brands such as GPX and Proscan Elite, but their specifications and current offers are not established here; compare the exact product’s battery, disc support, accessories, and return terms.
- A larger-screen or third-party dual-screen DVD system: Walmart search results also surface Wonnie, BOIFUN, and other models. Treat them as alternatives to investigate, not as verified recommendations; check whether the listed screen size, resolution, runtime, cabling, and accessories match your needs. Browse Walmart’s portable DVD player results or its Onn 10-inch search page.
- A portable Blu-ray player: Consider the separate Onn model only if Blu-ray compatibility is important enough to justify its higher captured price and shorter advertised maximum runtime.
- A tablet or offline-media device: Consider this category if your collection is primarily downloaded files rather than discs. Confirm that your chosen device and services support offline playback; the Onn DVD listings do not establish streaming or support for all digital video files.
Which Onn player fits your situation?
- One child or adult watching DVDs: Choose the 10-inch 480p swivel kit for its single-screen setup, listed USB/SD support, and lower captured price than the dual-screen kit.
- Two children watching together in the car: Choose the dual-screen model if its shared-viewing setup, mounting straps, and cable lengths suit your vehicle.
- A traveler with Blu-ray discs: Compare the separate Onn portable Blu-ray model; the DVD-only kits are not the right format choice.
- A buyer on a strict budget: Consider restored or pre-owned stock only after checking battery, accessories, condition, and return terms.
- A buyer whose videos are on USB or SD: Confirm the exact file and storage format works; the listing does not promise universal video compatibility.
- A buyer who wants streaming: Choose a device designed for streaming instead; these product listings describe disc players, not Wi-Fi entertainment systems.
