The best in-ear monitors for live streaming are the ones that fit securely and connect to an output carrying the mix you need to hear. The Shure SE215, Sennheiser IE 100 PRO and Audio-Technica ATH-E40 each offer useful monitoring features, but the available manufacturer specifications do not establish a universal sound-quality winner. Choose by fit, cable needs, isolation expectations and regional availability—and confirm your audio routing before buying.
What to check before choosing IEMs for a stream
Make sure the output carries the right mix
An in-ear monitor (IEM) is the listening endpoint; it does not create a monitor mix or route audio from your streaming software. Before choosing a model, identify the headphone or monitor output you will use and confirm that it carries the audio you want to hear. The needed interface, mixer, headphone amplifier or software routing depends on your existing setup. The product information for the models below does not establish compatibility with a particular OBS, mixer or interface configuration.
Fit affects both comfort and sound
Try the supplied tips and look for a secure, comfortable seal before a long session. Shure warns that a poor sleeve seal can reduce bass response and advises trying a different sleeve if bass seems lacking. That makes fit a functional consideration, not just a comfort preference. Follow the manufacturer’s fitting, cleaning and cable-care instructions; Shure also advises against prolonged listening at high volume.
Use wired monitoring as the baseline
A wired connection is the cautious baseline for live monitoring unless you have tested the latency of a specific wireless setup. This is not a claim that Bluetooth always fails: the available product sources do not establish low-latency performance for these IEMs in a live-stream signal chain. Sennheiser’s wireless product information mentions between-session monitoring, which should not be treated as validation for latency-sensitive live use.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Three wired IEMs to consider
These are feature-based choices, not a tested ranking. Manufacturer isolation figures below use no verified shared test protocol, so they should not be compared as if measured head-to-head. Frequency range, driver design and sensitivity figures also do not establish which model sounds best to an individual listener.
| Model | Documented features | Published specifications | Availability and caveats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shure SE215 | Shure positions it as a professional sound-isolating earphone. It has a detachable 3.5 mm cable with an MMCX accessory connection, a fit kit and a carrying case. | Shure’s guide lists 17 Ω impedance, 107 dB SPL/mW sensitivity and up to 37 dB noise attenuation. Frequency range: 22 Hz–17.5 kHz for the standard version or 21 Hz–17.5 kHz for the Special Edition. Manufacturer specifications; guide publication date not stated, accessed October 3, 2026. | The “up to 37 dB” figure is Shure’s claim, not an independently measured comparison. Use the fit kit to find a proper seal. |
| Sennheiser IE 100 PRO | Designed as an in-ear monitoring product. The package listing includes foam and silicone adapters, a cable, pouch and cleaning tool. | 20 Ω impedance; 20–18,000 Hz frequency response; noise attenuation <26 dB. The specification page also lists 115 dB SPL at 1 kHz / 1 Vrms and THD <0.1% at 1 kHz and 94 dB. Sennheiser specification page v1.1, dated September 2026. | The published attenuation figure cannot be fairly ranked against Shure’s without a shared test protocol. Specifications do not establish compatibility with a specific stream-routing setup. |
| Audio-Technica ATH-E40 | Audio-Technica describes a professional monitoring driver design, an over-ear memory cable, detachable 1.6 m cable, XS/S/M/L silicone tips and carrying case. Its Japan page lists replacement eartips and a dedicated replacement cable. | 12 Ω impedance; 107 dB/mW sensitivity; 20–20,000 Hz frequency response. Manufacturer specification page; publication date not stated, accessed October 3, 2026. | Audio-Technica’s Japan product page labels the model discontinued. That does not establish worldwide status; check stock and replacement-part availability in your region. |
How to choose among them
Choose the SE215 if replaceable cabling and fit options matter
The detachable cable and included fit kit make the SE215 a practical candidate if you want to try different sleeves or value a replaceable cable. Treat Shure’s attenuation and sensitivity numbers as manufacturer specifications, not proof that it isolates or sounds better than the alternatives.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Choose the IE 100 PRO if you want both foam and silicone adapters
The package listing includes both adapter types, along with a cable, pouch and cleaning tool. Its listed attenuation is under 26 dB, but that number cannot be directly compared with the SE215’s “up to 37 dB” claim. The specs do not tell you how either will sound in your ears or whether your output provides the stream mix you want.
Consider the ATH-E40 if its cable and fit options suit you—and you can find it
The ATH-E40’s detachable 1.6 m cable, over-ear memory cable and four silicone tip sizes are its documented practical features. Because Audio-Technica’s Japan page marks it discontinued, verify local availability before planning around it; the Japan listing alone does not prove it is unavailable elsewhere.

Set up and troubleshoot your monitoring
Before a long session
- Confirm which headphone or monitor output you will use and that it carries the mix you intend to monitor.
- Fit the IEMs with the supplied tips and check that the seal is secure and comfortable on both sides.
- Start at a conservative listening level, then raise it only as needed. Follow the manufacturer’s use and care guidance.
- Keep the cable routed so it is not pulling on the earpieces or connector.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bass sounds weak or the IEM feels loose | The sleeve may not be sealing properly. | Try another included tip size or material and reseat the earpiece. Shure specifically identifies a poor seal as a possible cause of reduced low-frequency response. |
| You cannot hear the stream mix | The selected output may not carry that mix, or the routing may not send it there. | Check the output selection and routing in the device or software you use. IEMs themselves do not create or route the mix. |
| Monitoring feels delayed on a wireless path | The specific wireless chain may add latency. | Use a wired path as the baseline or test the complete wireless chain before relying on it live. The cited product information does not establish low-latency performance for live monitoring. |
| A cable, tip or replacement part is unavailable | Parts and regional product status vary. | Check the manufacturer’s regional page and the exact connector or model compatibility before ordering. Availability of one replacement part does not establish broad product availability. |
Keep the YouTube stream running separately from your monitoring
IEMs help you listen to a mix; they do not keep a live channel online.
