Spoilers for the Alabasta arc, Impel Down, and Marineford. Crocodile’s best moments trace his transformation from a celebrated Warlord into the hidden force behind Alabasta’s crisis—and later, an unpredictable presence at Marineford. This is an editorial ranking based on each moment’s narrative impact, not a fan poll or measured popularity order.
How the ranking is judged
The order weighs what each scene changes: the reader’s understanding of Crocodile, the danger facing Luffy and Alabasta, and whether the moment marks a genuine turning point. The official story summaries establish the events, not a universal ranking of fan favorites.
1. The reveal that Mr. 0 is Crocodile
Crocodile’s identity as Mr. 0 reframes the conflict in Alabasta. He is not simply a public hero and Warlord; he secretly leads Baroque Works and is working to destabilize the kingdom. That contrast between his public standing and private scheme gives the arc its central betrayal. ONE PIECE.com’s Alabasta summary and official character profile describe his place in the organization and the conflict.
2. Crocodile’s first decisive victory over Luffy
The first major clash makes clear that Luffy cannot win by charging ahead as usual. The official arc summary says Crocodile’s Sand-Sand Fruit power overwhelms him and leaves him gravely wounded. It is an important early demonstration that Crocodile is not merely the conspiracy’s mastermind: he is a direct and formidable threat to Luffy. The official Alabasta recap covers their repeated clashes and Crocodile’s power.

3. The Pluton scheme—and Crocodile’s betrayal of Robin
Crocodile’s pursuit of the ancient weapon Pluton reveals the ambition behind his campaign. In the royal tomb, he demands that Robin decipher the Poneglyph; when its inscription does not give him what he wants, he turns against her. The shift from alliance to disposability is a sharp expression of his self-interest, while the weapon’s place in the plot raises the stakes beyond control of the kingdom. ONE PIECE.com’s arc summary recounts the Pluton objective and the confrontation.
4. Luffy finally defeats Crocodile in the royal tomb
After earlier defeats, Luffy wins their final fight in the royal tomb, sending Crocodile flying with a decisive blow. The victory ends Crocodile’s immediate conspiracy, with the kingdom’s crisis reaching its climax around the same confrontation. It lands because it resolves both the personal contest between Luffy and Crocodile and the danger Crocodile’s plan posed to Alabasta. The official Alabasta summary and Bandai Namco’s Alabasta recap describe Crocodile’s defeat.

5. Crocodile’s return at Marineford
Crocodile’s later appearance in Marineford restores him to the story as a dangerous, independent player rather than closing his role with Alabasta. The official character profile notes that he joins Luffy’s route to the war and targets Whitebeard over an old grudge. That return is compelling because it revives Crocodile’s capacity to alter the stakes without turning his actions into a redemption arc. ONE PIECE.com’s character profile summarizes his later involvement.
