The Bertie Beetle showbag returned to the Perth Royal Show in 2024 after being absent in 2023. The official event media kit attributed the hiatus to supplier shortages; PerthNow also reported production delays and rationing. The sources do not establish a more specific cause, so “chocolate shortage” is best treated as shorthand rather than a confirmed explanation.
Why the Bertie Beetle showbag was missing in 2023
The showbag was not available at the 2023 Perth Royal Show. The event’s 2024 media kit said it had been away because of supplier shortages, while PerthNow described production delays and rationing. Those accounts support a supply and production problem, but not a definitive claim that a particular chocolate ingredient or product was unavailable.
Its return and 60th anniversary edition
In July 2024, Western Australian Premier Roger Cook announced the return and the anniversary bag. PerthNow quoted him saying: “But I can confirm that the Bertie Beetle bag is back with their 60th anniversary bag.” The Perth Royal Show’s 2024 media kit listed seven Bertie Beetle bags, including a special birthday bag.
What the bags cost and contained in 2024
PerthNow’s August 2024 report listed seven options priced from $5 to $25. These are prices reported for the 2024 show, not current prices.

Can you still buy the 2024 showbag?
The official Bertie Beetle retailer distinguishes showbags sold exclusively at agricultural shows from products available online year-round. Its current pages list gift boxes, hampers, collector tins and special editions, and name the Perth Royal Show as a location with an official stand. That information does not establish that the exact 2024 showbag is still available. Check the retailer’s showbag page and where-to-buy page for current products and availability.
