What The Roses is about
Ivy Rose, played by Olivia Colman, and Theo Rose, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, seem to have successful careers, a loving marriage, and a family. Their circumstances shift when Theo’s career falters as Ivy’s ambitions rise, setting off competition and resentment. Searchlight Pictures’ official film page describes the movie as a reimagining of the 1989 classic The War of the Roses, based on Warren Adler’s novel—not simply as a direct remake.
Cast and filmmakers
Jay Roach directed the film, with a screenplay by Tony McNamara. The cast listed by Searchlight also includes Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, and Kate McKinnon, alongside Colman, Cumberbatch, Samberg, and Janney.
