It was an anonymous-source report, not a public statement from Affleck or confirmation of Violet’s eventual enrollment. The marriage-strain framing belongs to that period: Jennifer Lopez and Affleck later settled their divorce, according to the Associated Press.
What the August 2024 report said
Marie Claire’s August 20, 2024 article by Iris Goldsztajn relayed a source cited by People saying Affleck “has been very focused on getting Violet ready for move-in.” The source described the transition as “a huge deal for the whole family” and said they had been excited in recent weeks. Those descriptions were attributed to an unnamed source; neither Affleck nor Violet was quoted in the report. (Marie Claire, August 20, 2024)
What was reported about Violet’s college plans
The article described Violet as 18 and said she was expected to attend Yale University in fall 2024 after graduating high school. That is what the report said at the time; it does not independently establish that she enrolled or provide information about her current academic status. The same coverage identified Jennifer Garner as Violet’s mother and named her siblings as Fin, then 15, and Samuel, then 12. Those ages refer to August 2024, not the present. (Marie Claire, August 20, 2024)
What the report said about Lopez and the family
Marie Claire also relayed People-source reporting that Lopez remained involved in Affleck’s children’s lives and wanted to spend time with them before school resumed. The article said she attended Violet’s graduation party at Garner’s home in May 2024. Separately, it relayed an anonymous Entertainment Tonight source’s comment that Affleck did not want to cause strain between Garner and Violet and supported their spending time together. These are accounts attributed to entertainment outlets’ unnamed sources, not independently verified statements from the people involved. (Marie Claire, August 20, 2024)

How the marriage timeline changed
The 2024 article appeared amid reports of strain in Lopez and Affleck’s relationship. TIME’s March 8, 2024 timeline recounts that the pair postponed their planned September 2003 wedding amid media attention, separated in early 2004, reunited in 2021, and married in 2022. It also identifies Affleck and Garner as parents of three children: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. (TIME, March 8, 2024)
The later legal status is clearer than the earlier rumors. The Associated Press reported on January 7, 2025, citing court filings, that Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024 and that the couple’s separation date was listed as April 2023. AP said they settled through mediation in September 2024 and were asking a judge to finalize the divorce. The college-preparation report does not establish that Violet’s move or planning for it caused, or was connected to, the couple’s relationship problems. (Associated Press, January 7, 2025)
