After Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, an unnamed source quoted in People’s reporting described Ben Affleck as “doing well and very focused.” That was a source’s characterization—not a statement from Affleck himself—and it should not be treated as independently confirmed. The divorce later became effective on February 21, 2025.
What the report said about Affleck
A Yahoo Entertainment excerpt of a People report published August 26, 2024 attributed the description “doing well and is very focused” to an unnamed source. The excerpt also attributed to the source the phrase “great when it comes to the kids.” The report does not establish that Affleck made a public comment about his feelings after the filing, so the description should not be recast as his own words. The reference to “the kids” does not mean Affleck and Lopez have children together. Affleck has three children with Jennifer Garner, and Lopez has twins with Marc Anthony; the Associated Press reported that Affleck and Lopez have no children together.
When Lopez filed—and what happened afterward
Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on August 20, 2024, according to Associated Press coverage published by Spectrum News NY1. The couple had married in 2022, after reconnecting roughly two decades after their early-2000s relationship. They had also appeared together in Gigli and Jersey Girl.

The legal case concluded after the initial filing: a judge approved the settlement on January 6, 2025, and the divorce took effect February 21, 2025, the Associated Press reported. The couple resolved the matter through mediation. Most financial details remained private, and neither was to pay the other spousal support. The separation date is not consistent across the cited coverage. The AP’s August 20, 2024 report said the court record listed April 26, 2024. Its later account described court filings as saying the pair separated in April 2023. Without resolving that discrepancy from the underlying court document, neither date should be presented as definitive.
