The charter stayed dockside, and the guests left a $19,000 crew tip—$1,461 per person, according to Captain Kerry Titheradge. The dispute was over whether strong crew service could make up for a yacht that never took the guests out to sea.
What happened to St. David?
Bravo’s August 18, 2025, account places the incident during Season 12’s sixth charter, while St. David was docked at Yacht Club Isle de Sol in Sint Maarten. Before departure, Captain Kerry said the crew tests steering at each station, each engine and the bow thruster. He and the first officer tried resetting the thrusters and engines, but the problem remained. Kerry said he could not take control of the boat from the stations and would not depart with a system that was not fully operational.
The first officer later identified a bad “wing station controller.” A replacement was expected the next day, so St. David remained at the dock for the three-day charter. Guests could use the water-sports equipment and tender, but the yacht did not take them out to sea. Bravo’s episode coverage reports the diagnosis and events; it is not an independent inspection of the vessel’s maintenance systems. Read Bravo’s account of the boat issue.
Why did the guests leave a $19,000 tip?
The guests’ primary representative, Ron, told Kerry they had been happy with the crew but considered the yacht’s failure to leave port a significant problem. He said the group had spent $60,000; that is Ron’s stated figure in Bravo’s report, not an independently verified charter price. From the guests’ perspective, the boat not moving undermined the trip they had paid for.

Kerry acknowledged the service-industry pressure but argued that the crew should not suffer financially for a house or equipment failure. At the tip meeting, he said, “Unfortunately, the guests, in their mind, they have punished us for the boat not moving.” He announced a $19,000 tip, or $1,461 per crew member, according to Bravo’s report. See Bravo’s report on the tip.
How does the tip compare with other Season 12 charters?
Other reported tip totals belong to different charters and should not be confused with Episode 12’s payout. They provide season context, not a benchmark for what yacht guests typically tip.

Was the yacht actually sinking?
No. “Just sank” is figurative headline language: the reported incident was a controller fault that kept St. David from departing, not a report that the yacht sank. The breakdown-and-tip story concerns Episode 12. Bravo’s September 15, 2025, post-finale coverage separately reported that the crew completed the season and quoted Kerry praising their teamwork.
