Cat Baugh’s “troubled past” refers to the childhood experiences she described on Below Deck: she said both parents died while she was young, she and her brother entered foster care and were separated, and she felt suppressed by the religious environment of a foster family. The account helps explain the personal context around her Season 11 departure, but the circumstances behind the call that preceded it were not disclosed publicly.
What Cat Baugh said about her childhood
In a February 19, 2024 recap, Us Weekly reported Cat’s account of losing both parents and entering foster care. She said her father died when she was 9 and her mother when she was 13. She also said she and her brother were placed in the system and separated. These details are her reported statements on the show, not independently verified biographical records.
Cat said she lived with a foster family in Yorba Linda, California, from age 13 to 18. She described the family’s religious culture as “like a cult religion” and said she felt suppressed. That is Cat’s characterization; it should not be treated as an independently established finding about the household or a religious group.
She also said contact with her biological brother was discouraged because he was not religious. In the recap, Cat recalled: “Everything was for praise in the church and I felt like I was just a prop to them.” She said that at 18 she chose to pursue a relationship with her brother and her own life, and that the two later became close.

Why Cat left Below Deck Season 11
Cat’s departure happened in Season 11, Episode 7. Bravo’s March 20, 2024 account says she received a troubling call from her friend Megan, then spoke with Chief Stew Fraser Olender and Captain Kerry Titheradge about how she was doing. Cat chose to leave St. David.
In her final interview on the episode, Cat said: “I wish I could have stayed. But, the thing is, there’s no way I could have. This is too much. I need to be with the people [who] need me, and also, on this boat, I’m at a breaking point. I need to protect my mental health. It’s like my support system is at home, not here.” The episode account does not disclose what happened to Megan or the underlying situation behind the call, so it would be speculation to identify the emergency.

Kerry said in the same Bravo coverage, “My number one job is to take care of my crew and their health.” The account presents Cat’s exit as her decision after she described reaching a breaking point, not as a firing.
What was known about Cat after the episode
A March 2024 report said Kerry had been in touch with Cat and that she told him she was in a “pretty good headspace” at that time. Bravo’s report is a dated update, not evidence of her current wellbeing.
