Isabella “Bella Brave” Thomson was placed in a medically induced coma during a serious lung-related illness in July 2024. She died on July 14, 2024, aged 10. The coma was a development in her final hospitalization, not her current status.
What happened to Bella Brave?
Bella Thomson, known to many viewers as Bella Brave, was intubated in intensive care and placed in a medically induced coma during a serious illness affecting her lungs. Her mother, Kyla Thomson, shared updates during the hospitalization, describing uncertainty and difficulty expanding Bella’s lungs, followed by signs of cautious improvement. Those updates reflected what the family was being told and observing at the time; they do not establish a definitive diagnosis or explain the precise medical cause of her later death. E! News reported Kyla’s July 11 update, including her account that Bella had shown improvement after doctors had prepared the family for the possibility she might not survive.

Did Bella Brave survive?
No. Bella died at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto on July 14, 2024, aged 10. The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation memorialized her death and described it as resulting from “extremely rare and unexpected lung failure.” The cited public accounts do not establish a more detailed causal chain, so it would be inaccurate to attribute her death definitively to a particular infection, transplant complication, or treatment. The foundation’s memorial confirms her age, date of death, and its account of the cause; CJME’s July 15, 2024 report said she died at SickKids at 4:19 p.m. Eastern.
What was known about Bella’s health?
Bella had complex medical needs, including Hirschsprung’s disease and severe combined immunodeficiency, and received a bowel transplant in 2023. Her family’s July 2024 updates discussed a severe lung-related crisis, but available public sources do not provide a full clinical record or establish how her underlying conditions, prior transplant, and final lung failure were medically related. The coma was part of the treatment context during that crisis; the sources do not say it caused her death.

Bella’s family shared parts of her life and medical journey on social media. A July 15, 2024 local report said she had over 7.1 million TikTok followers at that time; that is a dated figure, not a current count. The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation remembered her as an advocate for children with complex medical needs and an ambassador for the hospital. It said Bella hoped people would remember to “love God, know you’re never too old to bring a stuffy, and always be brave.” The foundation’s memorial shares that tribute.
