Black and Haden had attended Crossroads School, but they were not high-school sweethearts. In a 2015 Parade interview, Black said, “I didn’t date Tanya or talk to her or anything in high school,” adding that they started dating “like 20 years after high school.” The Associated Press reported in March 2006 that they had begun dating the previous year.
Black and Haden married in Big Sur in 2006, according to the Associated Press report published by CBS News on March 16, 2006. In the same Parade interview, Black reflected that before Haden, he had felt marriage “was not for me.”
