Baylen Dupree has said that speaking openly about Tourette syndrome helps her take control of her story. TLC’s Baylen Out Loud follows her family life and growing independence in West Virginia, showing more than the tics viewers may encounter in short social-media clips.
What Baylen Dupree has said about sharing her story
In an interview with Good Morning America, Dupree said she began being more transparent online after experiencing bullying. She described sharing her experience as a way to reclaim control: “I want to be in control of my diagnosis, my life, my condition.”
She said the TLC series gives viewers a fuller view of her life and journey than short social-media posts can. She hopes people recognize both the difficulties and the everyday ups and downs, and advises those supporting someone with Tourette syndrome to be patient and understanding. “All of us are more alike than we are different,” she said.
An Entertainment Tonight interview published January 10, 2025, is labeled an exclusive. Its description says Dupree spoke with Rachel Smith about going viral on TikTok, the attention leading to her TLC series, fame associated with her tics, and misconceptions she hopes viewers reconsider. These are related interviews; the available information does not establish which one the title’s “Exclusive” refers to.

What Baylen Out Loud follows
TLC describes the series as following Dupree, a young woman with Tourette syndrome, and her family in West Virginia as she pursues greater independence. The show encompasses family relationships and life milestones as well as her condition. It premiered January 13, 2025; an ABC News segment the next day featured Dupree discussing life and relationships with Tourette syndrome as documented in the series.

What Tourette syndrome means—and what it does not
Tourette syndrome is a neurodevelopmental tic disorder involving sudden, involuntary movements and/or sounds. TLC’s condition overview describes the diagnostic criteria as at least two motor tics and one vocal tic lasting more than a year, and not attributable to another known medical condition. This general explanation is not a diagnosis or a description of Dupree’s individual symptoms.
TLC notes that coprolalia—uncontrolled obscene or socially inappropriate utterances—is not experienced by most people with Tourette syndrome. That distinction matters because dramatic media portrayals can make this symptom seem typical when it is not. The figures TLC cites also show that tic disorders can affect daily life in less visible ways:

- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention figure cited by TLC says 1 in 160 U.S. children aged 5–17 live with Tourette syndrome; the TLC page does not state the year for this estimate.
- The CDC figure cited by TLC says 1 in 50 U.S. children aged 5–17 live with Tourette syndrome or another persistent tic disorder; the year is not stated on the page.
- In the Tourette Association of America’s 2022 Impact Survey, 72% of children and 87% of adults with Tourette syndrome or another tic disorder reported physical pain because of tics.
- The same 2022 survey found that 84% of adults with Tourette syndrome or another tic disorder reported social difficulties related to tics.
TLC says no medication cures tics, though some medicines can reduce their severity. Treatment decisions and potential side effects are matters to discuss with a physician; the overview is not individualized medical advice.

Dupree’s comments connect public visibility with agency: she wants to tell her own story rather than have her diagnosis reduced to a viral clip or a stereotype. The series places Tourette syndrome within the context of family life, relationships, and increasing independence, while her call for patience asks viewers to treat people with the condition as individuals.
