How many copies of A Woman of Substance were sold?
Published estimates differ substantially, so the figures should be treated as claims from their respective sources rather than combined into one total. The Associated Press reported in 2024 that the novel had sold more than 30 million copies. Channel 4 said in its 2025 announcement of the adaptation that it had sold over 82 million. The estate’s 43-week chart figure offers a separate measure of the book’s reach.
