A later report on the post-exhumation examination said Brazilian influencer Bárbara Jankavski Marquez died from cocaine-and-alcohol-related intoxication, with the forensic findings describing a fatal cardiac event associated with cocaethylene. The first reported finding, published in December 2025, named only an unspecified chemical substance; the more specific account appeared in May 2026.
What was Barbara Jankavski’s reported cause of death?
RedeTV’s May 2026 account of the post-exhumation findings attributed the intoxication to cocaine and alcohol and said the report described a fatal cardiac event associated with cocaethylene. The underlying forensic report was not independently available in the reporting reviewed, so these technical details should be understood as media-reported findings rather than a direct quotation from the report. RedeTV, May 6, 2026
Why did the first report give a less specific cause?
On December 2, 2025, SBT News reported that forensic reports had identified intoxication by a chemical substance, but did not name it. That account reflected the initial finding; it did not identify cocaine, alcohol, or cocaethylene. SBT News, December 2, 2025
Later coverage described a further examination after questions were raised about the initial findings. Univision reported that Jankavski’s body was exhumed on February 3, 2026 for additional examination. The December and May accounts therefore differ in timing and detail: the first reported an unspecified substance, while the later account described findings from the post-exhumation examination. Univision, May 2026

What is known about the investigation?
Jankavski, 31, was found dead on November 2, 2025, at a residence in São Paulo’s Lapa district. Veja São Paulo reported that the case was initially recorded as sudden death and that the 7th Police District (Lapa) was handling the investigation at the time of its December 2025 report. Veja São Paulo, December 2, 2025; updated June 5, 2026
RedeTV’s May coverage also reported no signs of violence on the neck. That detail does not, by itself, establish a final investigative or legal conclusion. The available reporting does not verify that the case has been closed or establish a final official disposition.
