Ballard is not cancelled: Prime Video renewed the crime drama for Season 2 on October 6, 2025, and Michael Connelly’s official series page reported on March 30, 2026, that the new season was in production. Neither source gives a premiere date. Season 1 is available on Prime Video for viewers who want to catch up.
Has Ballard been renewed for Season 2?
Yes. Amazon officially announced the renewal on October 6, 2025, and said Maggie Q would return as Detective Renée Ballard. The announcement also described the series as exclusive to Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories; actual catalog availability can vary by location. Amazon’s renewal announcement quotes Lauren Lancaster of Amazon MGM Studios: “We are excited to share that the Bosch universe will continue to expand with a second season of Ballard for our global Prime Video customers.”
The renewal announcement followed the period when the show’s status had not yet been confirmed. It is not a new cancellation notice: Season 2 was renewed, and the later update was about production.
When is Ballard Season 2 coming out?
No premiere date is established in the latest reviewed official information. Michael Connelly’s official Ballard TV page says release-date information is unavailable. A TV Insider report published April 2, 2026, likewise said the date was unknown at that time. TV Insider’s report is secondary coverage, not a date announcement.

Any claimed month, quarter, or year should be treated as unconfirmed unless Prime Video or another authoritative source announces it. Production starting is a meaningful status update, but it does not by itself establish when episodes will be released.
What does the latest production update confirm?
Connelly’s page dates the production announcement March 30, 2026, and labels the season “in production.” It also lists casting updates for Rosanna Arquette, Benjamin Bratt, Ever Carradine, and Hamish Linklater. These are signs of the season moving forward, not evidence of a premiere date.
TV Insider reported on April 2, 2026, that production had begun and described a table-read clip offering a glimpse of the first episode, “Blue Window,” written by Ralph Gifford. That report supplies additional context, but the official page’s production status and lack of a release date are the clearest points for viewers.
Where can you watch Ballard Season 1?
Season 1 has 10 episodes. Amazon’s guide says they debuted July 9, 2025, and are available to stream on Prime Video. The series follows LAPD detective Renée Ballard as she investigates cold cases, with help from Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver. See Amazon’s Season 1 viewing guide for its streaming information. Catalog access can differ by country and may change over time.

Connelly’s official page says Season 2 will use elements from The Waiting (2024). That wording indicates a connection to the novel, not a claim that the season adapts the entire book. Readers interested in the related source material can look for The Waiting by Michael Connelly.
