Bailey Smith invited Karl Stefanovic to dinner during a playful exchange on Today in September 2024. The invitation was made on air while Smith and fellow AFL player Kalyn Ponga were promoting a deodorant partnership; the report does not say that a real-world date took place.
What Bailey Smith said to Karl Stefanovic
PerthNow reported that Smith and Ponga appeared on the Australian breakfast program Today on Friday, 20 September 2024, to promote their Stuff That Matters deodorant partnership. During the conversation, Stefanovic complimented Smith’s appearance and scent. Smith teased him about missing a drink the night before, then brought up dinner that evening.
PerthNow attributed these lines to the exchange:
- Stefanovic: “You look delicious and smell delicious, I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable, Sarah,”
- Smith: “Why didn’t you come for a drink last night like I asked you to?”
- Smith: “Are we getting dinner tonight then? I asked last night, he said no. But that’s fine,”
- Co-host Sarah Abo: “Karlos, you rejected Bailey Smith!? That’s the headline,”
PerthNow’s account of the exchange is the basis for these quotations; a complete primary transcript or recording is not established here.
Did Bailey Smith and Karl Stefanovic go on a date?
The report establishes an invitation made during on-air banter, not that Stefanovic accepted or that dinner happened. Stefanovic joked that they would share the results if the date eventuated. The exchange occurred in a promotional interview and should not be treated as confirmation of a relationship or private disclosure.

Why Smith and Ponga were on Today
The appearance promoted Smith and Ponga’s partnership with Stuff That Matters, a deodorant brand. The report does not identify a particular product, scent, price or retailer, so it does not support a specific product recommendation or claim about current availability.
The interview also touched on Smith’s football future
The conversation included Smith’s season after an ACL injury suffered in pre-season training. He said he wished he had been playing during the Bulldogs’ brief finals campaign. After the Bulldogs lost an elimination final to Hawthorn, Abo asked whether he had spoken to prospective future teammates about a move. Smith said he would weigh up his future with his manager; the report does not confirm a completed trade.
