Taylor said he had spent nearly six months keeping the role under wraps and had been filming for six months. He called the part exciting and said he was pleased to be back on set and reconnecting with familiar cast members. His first scene was at the Palm Beach coffee cart with Irene (Lynne McGranger), Alf (Ray Meagher) and Leah (Ada Nicodemou), a moment he described as a “pinch me” experience.
How is Langham different from Dylan Carter?
| Character | Portrayed by | Role and characterization |
|---|---|---|
| Dylan Carter | Jeremy Lindsay Taylor | A corrupt cop; Taylor’s earlier character on the serial, last seen in 2016 according to the PerthNow article. |
| David Langham | Jeremy Lindsay Taylor | A new sergeant at Yabbie Creek police station, described as being on the right side of the law and “very by-the-book.” |
Langham is a new character, not a return of Carter. Taylor joked about his many police parts: “I’ve played at least five or six cops in my career.” That is his own approximate estimate.

What tensions does Langham bring to Summer Bay?
A difficult family reunion
Langham is the estranged father of Lacey Miller, played by Sophea Pennington. He arrives with his other daughter, Jo, played by Maddison Brown; the PerthNow article said Jo would join him on screen in the weeks after publication. Taylor described the family’s effort to reconnect: “The three of them are all dealing with trauma, and trying to reconnect, but it’s not going really well.”
Finding his footing at work
Langham also has to work out how to relate to Cash Newman, played by Nicholas Cartwright. Taylor said: “Meanwhile, David is trying to find his way with the character of Cash Newman (Nicholas Cartwright), who has had a bit of a shady career, shall we say.”
What did Taylor say about playing a by-the-book officer?
Taylor described Langham as “very by-the-book — they need that in Summer Bay!” He also called the character his favourite police role. The contrast with Carter gives Taylor a fresh part to play: rather than another version of the corrupt officer, Langham is presented as a law-abiding sergeant navigating a complicated family and a workplace relationship with Cash.
