Yes. Novak described a romantic relationship with Kaling that was on and off and difficult to label. In a 2015 interview with The Independent, he explained: “We never really split up as we were never really together.” He added, “No one ever knew whether we were on or off.”

In the direct interview with The Independent, Novak called the relationship “on/off” and emphasized how hard it was to categorize. He also said, “I’m single at the moment.” That was his answer in 2015; it does not establish his relationship status today.
His 2021 account
In a 2021 interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air, Novak again invoked the ambiguity, saying, “You know, I think, like Ryan and Kelly, and like many people in their 20s, it depends who you ask and what hour you ask it at.” The comparison to Ryan and Kelly refers to the characters they played on The Office.

What is Novak’s relationship with Kaling now?
In the same 2021 interview, Novak said Kaling was “one of the closest – or the closest person in my life to this day.” He also confirmed that he is godfather to both of her children.
