The available accounts document a few awkward family-photo moments connected to cruises, but they do not verify 20 distinct photos taken aboard ships. The clearest example is an intentionally silly onboard portrait session; another is a caption about a grandmother’s New Year’s cruise photo, whose setting is unspecified. Here are the documented examples, with those distinctions kept clear.
What the documented cruise-photo examples show
These accounts are anecdotes, not a representative sample of cruise photography. None establishes how often awkward family photos happen on ships, and the examples vary in how firmly they connect the image to an onboard setting.
| Example | What the source establishes | Setting certainty |
|---|---|---|
| Awkward poses and Christmas sweaters | Travel writer Laura Longwell recounts an evening family portrait session during a cruise. The family wore ugly Christmas sweaters, and the ship photographer suggested ridiculous poses. The account describes the session as enjoyable for both the family and photographer. Travel Addicts | Confirmed cruise portrait session; the account places it during a cruise. |
| Grandmother’s New Year’s cruise photo | A Times Union gallery, attributed to Awkward Family Photos, includes the submitter’s caption: “Was visiting my grandma and found this photo of her New Year’s cruise. What the h—, grandma?!” The caption does not identify the ship, date, or scene. Times Union | Cruise-connected by caption; the available text does not establish that the photo was taken aboard. |
| A portrait and a fall aboard a ship | An Awkward Family Photos archive submission recounts an awkward family portrait and mentions the submitter’s brother falling down two flights of steps inside a cruise ship. It does not say that the portrait itself was taken on the ship. Awkward Family Photos archive | The mishap is aboard a cruise ship; the portrait’s setting is not established. |
Why this is not a verified list of 20 shipboard photos
The accounts above support three different kinds of connection: a portrait session during a cruise, a photo described in a caption as being from a cruise, and an archive story that mentions a shipboard mishap alongside a portrait. Those are not interchangeable. In particular, a cruise-related story does not prove that its portrait was taken onboard.
The Times Union gallery also includes broader vacation-photo moments involving timing, poses, interruptions, and other travel scenes. Without evidence that a particular image was taken on a ship, those pictures cannot accurately be presented as cruise-ship photos. The available sources therefore do not substantiate a 20-photo count.
