BGR interpreted brief social posts by Alex Perez as a possible tease of an Avengers–X-Men connection, but the production-change report it cited said only that the film was expected to get a new title and focus. It did not mention the X-Men.
What did the July 2024 report actually claim?
Chris Smith’s BGR article, published July 18, 2024, connected two separate things: reporting that Avengers 5 might receive a new name and focus, and Alex Perez’s short responses to online speculation about an Avengers-versus-X-Men story.
BGR read Perez’s posts as encouraging that speculation. The article quoted him writing, “I know it feels that way now…wait until next week,” and, in response to another comment, “He’s got the right idea”. Those snippets are ambiguous: they do not explicitly identify a film plot, confirm an X-Men appearance, or say that Kang had been replaced.
Did Marvel confirm that the X-Men replaced Kang?
No. The BGR story itself described the X-Men angle as unconfirmed. It attributed the reported change in Avengers 5’s name and focus to a passage from The Hollywood Reporter, but said that passage did not mention the X-Men. The X-Men connection was BGR’s interpretation of Perez’s posts, not a confirmed detail from that production-change reporting.

That distinction matters: a reported change in a film’s direction is not evidence for any particular replacement storyline. Based on this July 2024 article, it would be inaccurate to say Marvel had officially replaced Kang with the X-Men or announced an Avengers-versus-X-Men movie.
How to separate the report from the speculation
| Claim | What the July 2024 BGR article supports |
|---|---|
| Avengers 5 might get a new name and focus | BGR said the cited Hollywood Reporter passage indicated a change; it did not identify the X-Men as the new focus. |
| Alex Perez teased an Avengers–X-Men plot | BGR interpreted his brief, ambiguous social posts as encouraging speculation. The posts, as quoted in the article, did not confirm a plot. |
| The X-Men officially replaced Kang | Not established. BGR labeled the X-Men angle unconfirmed. |
Is Avengers 5 about the X-Men?
The July 2024 report does not establish that it is. It records speculation prompted by Perez’s posts, alongside separate reporting about a possible change to the film’s name and focus. Those are not the same claim, and the article offers no confirmation connecting the production change to the X-Men.

What does the Avengers vs. X-Men comic have to do with the rumor?
Marvel’s Avengers vs. X-Men is a comics crossover, and it can provide background for readers curious about the idea. A prior BGR article about Avengers vs. X-Men and Secret Wars discusses those stories as comics while also treating possible MCU connections as rumors. The existence of a comic storyline does not show that a film will adapt it.

This is a July 2024 rumor, not a current confirmation of Avengers 5’s plot. The sources discussed here establish what BGR reported at that time; they do not establish the film’s later or present official production status. Any claim about a subsequent announcement needs a separate, dated official source.
