The AAA Avatar: The Last Airbender action-RPG announced in 2024 was reported to be no longer in production by June 2026. That is not the same as a formal cancellation announcement: the available report says it was not in production when Paramount’s newly unified games studio was formed, and leaves open the possibility of an Avatar game in a different form.
Is the Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG still happening?
As of June 2026, the clearest public update was that the project was not in production. Engadget, reporting on an IGN interview with Paramount Games Studio executive Shawn Kittelsen, said the RPG was not in production when Paramount’s and Skydance’s gaming divisions combined to form the new studio. Kittelsen also said that this “doesn’t mean you won’t get a AAA Avatar game at some point, but it might come in a different iteration.” Engadget’s June 6, 2026 report relays his comments.
The report supports describing the announced RPG as reportedly no longer in production. It does not document a formal cancellation notice from Paramount or Saber Interactive. Paramount’s June 2026 announcement of the unified studio and its lineup names another Avatar project, but not this RPG; that omission is context, not proof of cancellation.
What was announced in 2024?
On October 3, 2024, Paramount Game Studios and Saber Interactive announced an AAA action-RPG in collaboration with Avatar Studios. The planned story centered on an all-new Avatar thousands of years before the existing Avatar Legends timeline. The announcement described dynamic combat and a vibrant world, but did not establish a final title, release date, platforms, or detailed gameplay systems. GameSpot’s October 3, 2024 coverage reported the announcement and its stated premise.

Paramount executive Doug Rosen framed the game as a way to expand the franchise’s world-building and give fans an immersive experience with new content. He also said Paramount and Saber would co-fund the AAA title. Those were statements about the project at announcement; they are not evidence that development continued afterward.
Was the Avatar RPG canceled?
There is no formal cancellation notice documented in the cited reporting. The more precise account is that the project had stopped progressing by the time Paramount’s unified gaming studio was established, according to Kittelsen’s comments as relayed by Engadget. His suggestion that an AAA Avatar game could arrive in a different iteration points to a possibility, not a confirmation that a replacement game is in development.

The phrase “the biggest video game in franchise history” came from the 2024 announcement-era promotion. It is not a quantified comparison: no measure, budget, or other data was published to substantiate what “biggest” meant.
What happened to the separate Avatar game announced in 2026?
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a separate project, not a new name or confirmed successor for the Saber RPG. Paramount’s 2026 announcement describes it as a 1v1 fighter drawing characters and settings from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. It names Gameplay Group International and PM Studios in collaboration with Paramount and Avatar Studios. Paramount’s studio announcement lists the fighter among its projects.
